Ron Gastrobar Toko Amsterdam is the latest addition to the Ron Blaauw Group. It is not a new restaurant with star potential but a simple takeaway concept at the Kriterion petrol station near IJburg. This gives ‘refuelling with Ron Blaauw’ a very literal meaning.

The idea behind Ron Gastrobar Toko Amsterdam
Food at an average petrol station doesn’t exactly have a good reputation. And rightly so, as it mainly sells manufactured food with little nutritional value (exceptions aside). Ron Blaauw thought it was a good idea to change that, and the Kriterion pump station – entirely run by students – was open to it. There was the pop-up Ron Gastrobar Toko Amsterdam, where they sold fresh rendangs and other Ron Gastrobar classics. To take away or to eat on-site. ‘Ron Gastrobar Toko aims to elevate on-the-go meals. No limp sandwiches with more E-numbers than nutrients, but surprising single-serve meals that leave you wanting more,’ according to Ron Blaauw’s message. The pop-up has ended for now, but there is a good chance it will be extended and appear in more locations nationwide.
Fun fact: the Kriterion Student Pump has existed since 1960 and is fully managed by students—from HR to purchasing, sales staff, and marketing.

Menu and dishes at Ron Gastrobar Toko
The toko concept is new for Ron Blaauw and a nice addition to the numerous restaurants, Ron Blaauw At Home, and their training location in Diemen. Here’s how it works: the display case contains Ron Blaauw’s classic meals, available in 100 grams. You can easily take it home or heat it on-site.
The dishes are the Indonesian classics you’d expect from Blaauw – especially the rendang is a hit. But there are also vegan and fish options available. Freshly scooped or pre-packaged from the fridge: the choice is yours. And so, a visit to the petrol station becomes a culinary surprise.

Heat your meal at home or in one of the microwaves available at the Kriterion petrol station. It’s a quick bite anyway, as all meals are ready.
