Road trip California – From San Francisco to Santa Barbara in 9 days! part 2

Road trip West Coast California: Morro Bay – Santa Barbara – Cambria (part 2 of 4)

Road trip California: The story continues… Missed part 1? You can read it here.

It’s a 4-hour drive to Santa Barbara so we leave quite early from Morro Bay this morning.
Somewhere off road (we missed a turn somewhere) we drive through Oceano and we pass this diner, Rock ’n Roll Diner. I’m so glad we decided to stop here for breakfast. Freakin’ cool spot! Just as how I imagined a diner from the sixties would be. From “Lolliepop” to “The Locomotion”, I’m singing along with all the songs.

Sun, Sea, Beach, Wine, Sama Sama Kitchen: Santa Barbara!

Finally we arrive in Santa Barbara! Aaaah, the warmth, the sun, the sea, love it. This town is full of restaurants, coffee places and shops.

Santa Barbara

The first thing we do? We buy a nice bottle of wine. We put on our bikinis and head to the beach.

If you’re into wine then go to one of the tasting rooms at Anacapa and Yanonali street. We loved them! But why do they have to close so earlyyyy…. ( 6-7pm). We tasted a surprising and tasteful Chenin Blanc at Kunin Wines Tasting Room (a little chique) and another one at Municipal Winemakers Tasting Room (cool interior!).

Before we leave for Cambria the next day we have to have lunch at Sama Sama Kitchen. This place looks hip and the food appears to just so different and tasteful from what we’ve had before. They open at 4pm, so 5 minutes after we’re ordering our food. Hungry! Unfortunately they only serve the happy hour dishes until 5, so we take everything from that menu. We obviously know the krupuk (a light snack we eat all the time in NL), not really special. But the chicken wings and gado gado salad on the other hand are great! As these are so good, we wait until 5 and then order the nasi campur and eggplant from the larger menu. Eat here when you’re in Santa Barbara. Try to see if you can get a spot in the garden!

Last stop by the sea: Cambria

In the evening we arrive at Cambria. We’re staying at the Sea Otter Inn. And I must say, what a nice people and perfect cute room. It even has a fireplace. Also the sea is just across the small road, nice views!
There is a restaurant and bar nearby, named Sea Chest Oyster Bar and Restaurant. With its wooden, dark interior, small lamps and old fashioned carpet it makes me feel like stepping into the cozy living room of my great grandmother (not that I’ve ever been there, but I’m sure it looked like this).

Tomorrow: Sonoma! Yeah, wine, wine, wine!
