Restaurant Metro Amsterdam: one of Amsterdam North's favorite all-day spots

Meanwhile, Restaurant Sandberg has opened its doors, the second establishment of one of the brains behind the successful Restaurant Metro Amsterdam. What the founders do so well at Museumplein, they have been doing just as well for years in Amsterdam North. For that is where Restaurant Metro is located, a lovely spot where you can go at any time of day.

Atmosphere and interior at Restaurant Metro Amsterdam

Metro has been a favorite with young and old since its opening. It's a great place to go with family, casually drop in with friends, go on a date, or enjoy a cup of coffee at the bar on your own.

This isn't just due to the excellent food and drinks (there's also a bakery), but also to the cozy atmosphere and unique interior. The blue-green chairs are now unmistakably Metro, as is the other no-fuss decor, which has been meticulously designed. Everything about Metro is perfect, and despite its size, it feels cozy.

Its success was to be expected, with owners who have years of experience in the hospitality industry. The four founders met at Entrepot (Amsterdam East), and that's how the idea arose to start a business offering a gastronomic touch for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Menu and dishes at Restaurant Metro

Metro became famous for their "pizza fritta" – fried pizza dough generously topped with burrata and sardines. And rightly so, because they've since perfected it to perfection, and you can find it (almost) nowhere else.

Metro is all about exciting snacks. A few big hits: shrimp croquetas with pearl barley and lemon mayonnaise, brioche with mushrooms and cress, and dolma on a BBQ skewer filled with basmati, grapes, chestnuts, verjuice vinaigrette, and walnuts. All equally special and delicious.

For dinner, the menu is limited and varied, but that doesn't detract from the quality. In fact, because the menu isn't overly extensive, the quality is consistently good. You can enjoy three courses for €38,50, with a choice of meat, fish, or vegetarian. A la carte is also an option. A favorite among Metro regulars is the roasted kale with Zeeland steamed oysters and salsify, as is the côte de boeuf with pepper sauce and garnish.

Prefer to go to Metro in the morning? From 10:00 AM, the most delicious pastries roll out fresh from their own oven. Think chocolate chip cookies, miso cookies, and a homemade donut, but the cinnamon knot is also a must-try. Feeling savory? Then go for the brioche bun with shrimp croquette and pearl barley with lemon mayonnaise, or the sourdough toastie.
