For those familiar with the Houthavens in Amsterdam (near Amsterdam West), the closure of Pont 13 during the summer months will be sorely missed. Fortunately, there’s no need to be sad anymore, as Ferry Amsterdam now occupies this spot, housed in the same 100-year-old converted ferryboat. And believe us, this promises much goodness!
Why you want to visit Ferry Amsterdam ASAP
Pont 13 was particularly popular during summer, perhaps boasting one of Amsterdam’s best terraces. The same will likely be true for Restaurant Ferry Amsterdam, although this place is worth visiting even in less favourable weather. From April to September, it is open to the general public; in the remaining months, it only hosts events.
The same ferryboat remains at the edge of the Houthavens, now under new ownership. Specifically those of De Kok and De Maรฎtre, who previously owned a restaurant on Amstelstraat in the city centre. With Ferry, they’ve got a unique restaurant and events venue on their hands. Not only are they open for dinner, but you can also hire the place for parties and events (which we highly recommend).
Menu Ferry Amsterdam
From 4:00 PM onwards, Ferry is the place for a complete drinks session with snacks. Who wouldn’t want tempura green beans or tostadas with green radish and avocado alongside their glass of wine? We know where we’ll be on Friday afternoons for the next few months. Furthermore, there’s an extensive menu for those with a big appetite or who prefer a leisurely dinner, starting at 6:00 PM. Crowd-pleasers include the sea bream ceviche, miso eggplant, whole sea bass from the barbecue, and romanesco curry. But meat lovers can’t pass up the BBQ Ribeye.
Here’s something else you should know: the side dishes are too good to resist. Anyone who has never heard of chickpea fries won’t want anything else after visiting Ferry Amsterdam. Even the less adventurous will be satisfied with ‘regular’ fries (handmade!) and a classic mixed salad. And don’t forget to save room for dessert because you’ve never tasted anything as original as the quindim (a Brazilian dessert) with lemongrass and basil. In short, it is the place you’ll hold dear in your heart during the summer months and, ideally, you would like to keep to yourself.
