Ferry Amsterdam: extensive dining by the water in the Houthavens

Anyone familiar with the Houthavens in Amsterdam (near Amsterdam West), you'll find the closure of Pont 13 during the summer months a great loss. Fortunately, you no longer have to mourn, because Ferry Amsterdam is now located there, in the same 100-year-old, converted ferry. And believe us, this bodes well!

Why you want to get to Ferry Amsterdam as soon as possible

Pont 13 was particularly popular in the summer months, when the restaurant arguably had one of the best terraces in Amsterdam. The same applies to restaurant Ferry Amsterdam, although this place is definitely worth a visit even when the weather isn't so great. From April through September, they are open to the public; during the other months, they only host events.

At the edge of the Houthavens, the same ferry still moors, but now with new owners. De Kok en De Maître, to be precise, who previously owned a restaurant on Amstelstraat in the city center. With Ferry, they've acquired a unique restaurant and events venue. Not only are they open for dinner, but you can also rent the place out for parties and celebrations (we recommend it!).

Menu Ferry Amsterdam

From 4:00 PM, Ferry is the perfect place for a complete drinks and snacks menu. Because who wouldn't want tempura string beans or tostadas with green radish and avocado with their glass of wine? Right, we know where to find us on Friday afternoons in the coming months. They also have an extensive menu for those with a big appetite or who want to dine long – that's possible from 6:00 PM. Popular favorites include the sea bream ceviche, miso eggplant, whole barbecued sea bass, and Romanesco curry. But meat-eaters can't miss the BBQ Entrecote.

And one more thing: the side dishes are too good to be true. Anyone who's never heard of chickpea fries will never want anything else after a visit to Ferry Amsterdam. Even the less experimental types will find what they're looking for here, with "regular" fries (handmade!) and a classic mesclun salad. Don't forget to save room for dessert, because something as original as the quindim (a Brazilian dessert) with lemongrass and basil is like nothing you've ever tried. In short: the place to fall in love with during the summer months and actually want to keep all to yourself.

A grandma's cookbook. Three Michelin stars. And a beautiful 70s villa in a quiet neighborhood in Bangkok, where you are welcomed as if you were at the chefs' home. The Sühring brothers don't cook based on trends; they cook based on memories. Of their grandmother's farm, of the flavors of their youth in Germany, and of techniques passed down through generations. @relaischateaux invited me to experience Sühring during a solo lunch, and this is truly my ultimate definition of culinary self-care. This was a surprising afternoon in Bangkok, where I ate the best German food I have ever tasted. And that in a city where I normally avoid European restaurants.
