Restaurant De Juwelier Amsterdam: new bistro on the Utrechtsestraat from the team behind 212**

Restaurant De Juwelier is Amsterdam's new à la carte restaurant. The restaurant, created by chefs Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot of the two-Michelin-starred Restaurant 212, is located at Utrechtsestraat 51. It's in a building that housed Restaurant Harmsen for years, a place you might have passed a hundred times without really noticing. That's about to change! Last week, I had a delicious lunch there at the bar overlooking the kitchen, and between courses, I chatted with the chefs and team. It's perhaps the thing I've missed most about dining out, and it adds so much to the experience for me. We chatted about our love for Singapore, a place where the chefs currently running the kitchen at De Juwelier cooked at Table65 until a few months ago. A fun fact: that restaurant is also Richard and Thomas's.

Come with me to get breakfast in Taipei 🥢 Straight from the airport to this little spot to taste soup dumplings and so much more! That's what I call a soft landing 😉
Just back from Catalonia and I thought: I'll share some tips right away. During our road trip, we stayed two nights in the Ebro Delta. An incredibly fun stop for families and foodies alike, where there is plenty to do. · A boat trip to the Musclarium is a must! Here you eat oysters and mussels straight from the farm, in the middle of the sea. · Admire the flamingos and black ibises that can be found here all year round. · Rice is grown in the Ebro Delta all year round. For paella, but Kensho also makes sake and miso from it! You can visit them during a tasting. · Cycling along the rice fields, canoeing on the Ebro River, and visiting various beaches. It was still a bit too cold now, but there is plenty to do. · The towns are very low-key and not that exciting, but you can find fantastic local food there. From the Michelin-awarded Les Moles* to local eateries like Vermuteria Bonmarisc and Lo Tinglado. We ate a lot of fish, but also anemone fritters (a first!). Now back to work, and I’m going to create an extensive travel guide of this road trip through Catalonia, but you’ll want to save these tips for a future adventure. ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck { In this post, I share tips for the Ebro Delta in Spain (Delta de l'Ebre). At De Juwelier in Amsterdam you can eat à la carte

At De Juwelier, you can dine Monday through Sunday between 12:00 and 2:30 PM for lunch, and in the evening from 6:00 PM for dinner. No fixed menus with many courses; simply choose from the menu that takes your fancy. This is something you're seeing more and more abroad and seems to be becoming a trend in Amsterdam's fine dining scene as well. They have a small menu, but it's packed with top-notch dishes. While we browse the menu, they bring us bread from the barbecue and a cold almond soup with olive oil.

We started with the thinly sliced sea bass marinated in citrus with pickled trout roe, and the Australian winter truffle with a soufflé egg and braised leek. Divine! Next, we had the charcoal-grilled lobster with artichoke and lemon verbena sauce, and the oxtail with marrow and drained Dauphinoise gratin with Fiore cheese and pea salad. The main courses also include turbot, sole, and spring chicken.

Then we share a cheese board with Dutch cheeses accompanied by jams homemade by Richard's mother-in-law. She's already made this for 212** and now also for De Juwelier. The tomato jam with a hint of chili is my favorite.

Be sure to save room for dessert, because I predict the crispy mozzarella with tomato and basil will be the dessert everyone asks for (just like Richard's apple has been for years!). Coffee afterward? You'll want to order that just for the delicious Madeleines!

A DIFFERENT ATMOSPHERE FOR EVERY OCCASION AT THE JEWEL STORE

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, and the interior feels like it's been there forever. The Art Deco facade's ambiance is carried through to the restaurant. A warm, small bistro atmosphere, dark wood, table linens, indirect lighting on the walls, and the centerpiece of the bar by the open kitchen, where a huge bronze lobster catches the eye of everyone who walks by.

There are three seating areas: at the bar, a more private area downstairs (reserve one of the booths for a date night, for example), and upstairs on the mezzanine level where you can enjoy the bustle of the open space. Good to know: the bar seats are currently reserved for walk-ins without reservations. If you want to be sure of a spot, booking is recommended!
