I have to admit, it's been a while since I've been to a swimming pool. Pre-kid, that is, because with a toddler who can't get enough of playing and splashing, Amsterdam's pools are becoming increasingly popular. Many of these outdoor pools in Amsterdam have a separate children's pool, so no worries: even without kids, it's still a great place to be on a tropical day. First of all: thank you for being here to close out 2025 <3.
2025, you were everything I hoped you would be and more. So many new memories.
I don't yet know what 2026 will bring, but last year was one for the books. Highlights included trips to China, Mexico City, Egypt, and exploring the English countryside.
Entrepreneurs probably recognize that 2025 was not an easy year.
When I started Your Little Black Book, I had one dream: not to work to stay somewhere for free in exchange for content and the pressure of a "picture perfect" experience. But to use my revenue models to book and experience those special places myself, as a guest instead of an influencer, and to give you honest tips.
After almost 15 years of entrepreneurship, I'm so happy with the balance between editorial and commercial work and that I can also say no to things that don't feel right.
At the same time, it's still special that destinations, airlines, and hotels hire me to create a customized Little Black Book for them. I have complete freedom with these campaigns, and I believe in the value of these content-based tips that truly suit your taste. And they come from me personally, not from a machine.

This will always be my dream job, the one I created almost 15 years ago. I still do as much as possible myself. That's energizing—from both successes and failures.

This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp, Antwerp's newest boutique hotel on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted the 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out).
I recently stayed at this gem, and it truly has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls adorned with creative art, beautiful, bright rooms, and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delightful restaurant, helmed by a chef who previously worked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know!

6 outdoor swimming pools in Amsterdam and the surrounding area
The Noorderparkbad (North): Awarded one of the most sustainable swimming pools in the Netherlands, it's safe to say that this outdoor pool certainly has a lot to offer. It's open seasonally, and there are special times for families and baby swimming.
Brediusbad (Spaarndammerbuurt): Whether you're looking to swim laps, simply relax on your towel in the grass, or splash around with the little ones in the paddling pool, the Brediusbad is heated, so it's always a good idea!
Flevoparkbad (East): I think Flevopark is one of the nicest (and lesser-known) parks in Amsterdam. Did you know there's also a great swimming pool for the whole family? I think the toddler pool here is one of the best in the city.
Spa Zuiver (Amsterdam): For those who prefer a completely child-free experience and want to pamper themselves, the outdoor pool at Spa Zuiver is a real treat. Spa Zuiver was beautifully renovated during the lockdown, so if you haven't been there in a while: GO! Good to know: Spa Zuiver is a spa with swimwear.

The Mirandabad (Riverside District): Swimming laps in the 50-meter pool—I think it was one of the best-kept secrets of the lockdown. The Mirandabad in Amsterdam is now open again as usual for those who reserve in advance. The indoor pool is iconic with its enormous dome (also fun with kids in bad weather), but on a tropical day, the outdoor pool with its play ship is the perfect way to give the kids that hometown holiday feeling.
Sportplaza Mercator (West): How cool is the green wall at the 50-meter pool of this city pool on the edge of Amsterdam West? The pool was renovated a few years ago, and now you'll find an outdoor pool perfect for swimming laps, a children's pool, and a sunbathing area.

4 X Best outdoor swimming pools in Amsterdam Area:
Amstelbad (Ouderkerk aan de Amstel): The Amstelbad is also open again this summer! With pool water heated to 21 degrees Celsius, it's a wonderful place to relax on a tropical day. Also fun: a morning swim, and a delicious lunch in the afternoon on the terrace of places like Paardenburg or Ron Gastrobar.
The Houtvaart (Haarlem): It remains special, because De Houtvaart in Haarlem is a swimming pool housed in a cubist monumental building dating from 1927. I can only say that all that concrete has an impressive quality. Besides the large pool, there's also a children's pool for kids without qualifications.
Poel's Up (Amstelveen): Did you know that Poel's Up is the only floating outdoor pool in the Netherlands? Besides swimming in the pool, you can also enjoy food and drinks there, and it's the perfect spot for stand-up paddleboarding on the Poel!
Bernie's Beach Club (Zandvoort): Yes, the beach vibes, but no endless walks to the sea to cool off. To be honest, I'm not a fan of swimming in the sea in the Netherlands. If only because it's always a challenge to keep an eye on your belongings. At Bernie's Beach Club in Zandvoort, there are two pools near the beach bar where you can rent a sunbed for a fee: one adults-only and one family pool. Sunbed reservations are only possible if you're a member, and for the rest, it's first come, first served!
