Although I now feel like a "true" Amsterdammer, I must admit that my roots lie in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. In case you're unfamiliar with this village, here's a brief introduction: it's located next to Amsterdam (between South East and Amstelveen) and, in my opinion, it's the place with the most culinary hotspots per square meter. And now that the weather is starting to improve, I don't mind hopping on my bike and cycling down the Amstel River towards Ouderkerk aan de Amstel.
Besides the excellent food, you'll also find some of the most beautiful terraces here. These are situated on the Amstel River and truly give you a sense of escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether you're looking for a leisurely meal, a simple bite, or just drinks, there's something for everyone. Enjoy these 8 hotspots in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel you'll want to visit this summer!
One of my favorite Indos Ron Gastrobar Indonesia is definitely my go-to. I always go for the rijsttafel (rice table) that you can share, but the individual dishes are also recommended. The restaurant has a beautiful interior, but if you can snag a spot on the terrace, that's definitely the best option!

A new fish restaurant has been opened in the former spice factory by daughters Sara and Isabelle – who worked here as children in their parents' business. The girls are giving a contemporary twist to the family legacy. Fêtevis is all about the sea: from bouillabaisse to oysters and seafood. The atmosphere is festive, the dishes refined yet accessible.

Every Amsterdammer has heard of Loetje, and you really should try their steak at least once. They also have plenty of vegetarian options. In Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, they have a sunny terrace both on the Amstel and at the back of Loetje. Be sure to arrive early, though, as they're always packed!

This place isn't very well-known outside of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, but it's a favorite among many locals. The terrace overlooks the meadows, and while Ouderkerk aan de Amstel has a town center, it's a bit out of the way. It's easily accessible by car and definitely worth a visit. They have an extensive menu, and this location is a perfect choice for a celebration.

Brasserie Paardenburg probably has the most beautiful terrace on the Amstel River. It was recently completely renovated and is very spacious. A fun fact: every Friday is Lobster Friday! Just like the other terraces on the Amstel River, you can also moor your boat here.

If you don't feel like sitting on the terrace for long but still want to cool off, ice cream parlor IJsje aan de Amstel is a great alternative. It's located between Loetje and Ron Gastrobar. You can easily grab a seat on one of the benches by the water and still enjoy the view!

For lunch or high tea (highly recommended!), you can sit inside or outside. This charming bakery is just across the bridge from De Oude Smidse, so you can also enjoy a lovely waterside setting. The terrace isn't very large, so arrive early if you want to sit outside. You can also get bread and a wide variety of sweet treats for takeaway.
