Just back from Catalonia and I thought: I'll share some tips right away. During our road trip, we stayed two nights in the Ebro Delta. An incredibly fun stop for families and foodies alike, where there is plenty to do. · A boat trip to the Musclarium is a must! Here you eat oysters and mussels straight from the farm, in the middle of the sea. · Admire the flamingos and black ibises that can be found here all year round. · Rice is grown in the Ebro Delta all year round. For paella, but Kensho also makes sake and miso from it! You can visit them during a tasting. · Cycling along the rice fields, canoeing on the Ebro River, and visiting various beaches. It was still a bit too cold now, but there is plenty to do. · The towns are very low-key and not that exciting, but you can find fantastic local food there. From the Michelin-awarded Les Moles* to local eateries like Vermuteria Bonmarisc and Lo Tinglado. We ate a lot of fish, but also anemone fritters (a first!). Now back to work, and I’m going to create an extensive travel guide of this road trip through Catalonia, but you’ll want to save these tips for a future adventure. ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck { In this post, I share tips for the Ebro Delta in Spain (Delta de l'Ebre). 6 culinary tips for Ottawa

Visit the ByWard Market

The ByWard Market is a vibrant food market in Ottawa that's not to be missed. Here you'll find a delightful mix of food stalls where you'll want to try everything. Wander among the stalls brimming with fresh produce, such as seasonal fruits and vegetables, unique honey, and locally made cheeses. Or sample the city's culinary diversity at the restaurants and eateries in and around the market. You'll find delicious dishes from around the world, from Italian trattorias and Asian fusion restaurants to Lebanese eateries and Mexican taco trucks. My mouth is watering already!

Taste local specialties

Curious about some typical Canadian dishes that should be on your food bucket list? I'm sure you've probably never had a Beavertail! These are fried dough snacks covered in sweet toppings, like cinnamon sugar. Prefer something savory? Then go for poutine, which you'll find on many restaurant menus. When I was on the east coast of Canada, I ate it so much! I'd best describe this dish as loaded fries. Think crispy fries covered in cheese and gravy. The perfect comfort food!

book a food tour with a local

Especially when I'm traveling solo, I love nothing more than joining a food tour. In Ottawa, too, a food tour is a great way to quickly get to know the city while enjoying food and drinks. With a small group, you visit different restaurants and eateries to sample local and signature dishes. You often visit different neighborhoods as well, allowing you to truly experience the diversity of a city's culinary scene. Another reason I love food tours? The guide is a food expert in the city for a reason. So use your guide as a resource to discover the best spots for after the tour. From that one coffee shop to trendy new restaurants and the best chefs. I've discovered so many great spots just by asking the food tour guide all the questions.

Fun food tours you can book in Ottawa include:

Try poutine

Visit local breweries and distilleries

Ottawa's drinking scene is just as vibrant as its food culture. In and around the city, you'll find numerous craft breweries and distilleries to visit. A must for anyone who loves unique beers. You can, for example, take a tour of breweries such as: Beyond the Pale Brewing Company en Dominion City Brewing Co.Here you can learn more about the brewing process and then sample various craft beers. Prefer something a little stronger? Then you can visit distilleries like North of 7 Distillery of Top Shelf Distillers, where they make, among other things, artisanal gin or vodka.

Book your trip around a culinary festival

There's nothing better than food festivals. Not only are they fun and delicious because you can sample a wide variety of food and drinks, but they also give you a good insight into the locals and allow you to meet new people. How fun is it to strike up a conversation with the people next to you? You can immediately ask them what the next delicious treat is they want to try! Ottawa hosts food festivals throughout the year, catering to a wide variety of food cultures. From the Ottawa Wine and Food Festival to the Winterlude festival, which features numerous culinary stalls, and from the Ottawa Poutine Fest to the Ottawa Asian Night Market. It's always fun to plan your trip around a food festival!
