Looking for excellent wines without ending up in a fancy shop? Then you'll want to visit Oocker Amsterdam, located right next to Utrechtsestraat. Be warned: wine lovers won't be able to stop at just one visit. In short: a nice and relatively new wine bar in Amsterdam to have on your radar.
In 2023, Oocker Amsterdam was named Wine Bar of the Year. According to the owners, this is due to the establishment's welcoming atmosphere. No white tablecloths, but an open atmosphere where everyone is welcome. The location is somewhat tucked away on Frederiksplein, giving it an extra cozy feel.
The extensive selection of wines by the glass also contributed to winning that title; approximately 120 bottles were opened each evening for orders by the glass. Bottles up to €200 are opened regardless; above that amount, demand is estimated for that evening.
A total of around 350 wines are on the menu, served by the bottle and by the glass. Matching wines are complemented by a menu with a variety of sharing dishes, ranging from simple to refined. For example, there's a changing croquette of the day, you can savor cheeses with homemade nut bread (and, of course, a perfectly paired wine), and you can slurp oysters by the piece.
The dinner menu also offers dishes for larger appetites (and to keep for yourself, which is also nice). The artichoke with leek cream is unlike anything you've ever tasted, and the scallop tartare and classic steak tartare are also too good to miss.

The interior of this deep space is simple and offers space for tastings, large groups, and parties. It's a great spot for a dinner with colleagues, friends, or family. Feel free to pop in spontaneously, especially when the sun is shining. The terrace is a wonderful place to sit.
