Noemi Amsterdam: the excellent takeaway spot for Italian pizza, focaccia and fresh pasta
On the corner of Van Woustraat and Hemonylaan (Amsterdam South) you can no longer ignore the delicious aroma of freshly baked pizza and focaccia. Even though the small takeaway shop is unobtrusive, the scent immediately draws you to Noemi Amsterdam.

Why you should try Noemi Amsterdam's pizzas and forcaccias
Ordering pizza, focaccia, fresh pasta, or gnocchi at Noemi Amsterdam is like being transported to southern Italy. The pizzas, in particular, seem to have come straight from Naples. That presumption is largely true, as Antonio Amendola, Noemi's founder, sources all his ingredients from his homeland. He makes fresh dough every day for the pizzas and focaccias available for takeout.

The Neapolitan restaurant owner and chef hopes to expand Noemi Amsterdam into a full-fledged restaurant, but he's taking it one step at a time. He's "in no hurry." However, Noemi's popularity speaks volumes: this place could very well become a popular restaurant.
His specialty is the Turin pizza al padellino, a pizza baked in a small, round pan. Besides his regular menu (of which the Margherita pizza is perhaps the best you've tasted in a long time), Antonio makes a different dish daily, ranging from lasagna to Italian meatballs in tomato sauce. The pasta and gnocchi are also freshly prepared and meant to be finished at home. You do need to order these in advance, though, which the locals are now aware of and taking advantage of. If you don't live nearby but need a tasty treat, a real appetite, or hangover food, Noemi is more than worth the detour.

Note to self: always leave room in your suitcase for souvenirs. During my ski trip to Méribel, I popped into the local pharmacy just before leaving, and these are the beauty products I took home.

Looking for a stylish winter sports destination in France? Méribel is one of those places where everything is perfect: beautiful ski-in/ski-out hotels, excellent restaurants on and off the slopes, wonderful spas, and, if you're feeling energetic, après-ski.

Taking the train to your ski holiday? I say go for it! Door-to-door via Paris (Eurostar + TGV + bus) to Méribel in just over 10 hours. I found it very relaxing!
And of course it would be even more fun to add a night in Paris to it next time.

While I'm currently hopping from hotel to hotel and neighborhood to neighborhood in Bangkok (all in the name of “research” and new food hotspots for the new LITTLE BLACK BOOK 😉). Back home, Amsterdam is serving peak weekend vibes.
Think: Dim Sum Sunday in Noord, vibrant Chinese New Year celebrations across the city and a Vietnamese Tết feast at @yen.diningbar. Add market gems like the @le.temps.perdu.brocante pop-up in Oud-West and @themakermarket at De Hallen, and your weekend basically plans itself.
And yes, make time for ARTIS: there are now two elephant calves and they're too cute. 🐘🐘 Instant serotonin incoming, I promise!
