Around Labor Day there were fun events all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. Such a shame that it's raining that very day... We took the metro to Williamsburg, because we haven't seen everything yet! (Read New York City diary part 3 hereI'm completely in love with Williamsburg. You don't see many high-rises here, and everything looks like a cute village. It sometimes reminds me of London :-). In today's blog, we're going for brunch on 5th Street and exploring Green Point.
Start the day with brunch! I enjoy it even more than breakfast or lunch… Brunch means you slept in, skipped breakfast, and made a kind of combination with lunch. Also great: the brunch cocktails! We're going to EGG For brunch today. It's a hotspot where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, brunch, or just a coffee. By the time we arrived, there was a long line for brunch... so we went to Juliette, which is next to Egg.
Inside, it's pleasantly busy with other brunchers! Because it's raining, we order another soy iced latte and hope it dries up soon :-).
With my maxi dress and sandals that I picked up at a small boutique in Seminyak Bali When I bought it I am anything but dressed for rain ;-).
After brunch, we popped into the Bedford Mini-Mall. You can enter through the back door of the vintage shops across from Egg and Juliette, or through the main entrance on Bedford Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets.
If you have a sweet tooth, pop into Handsome Dan's! Here you can fill a mason jar with the most delicious candies.
The rain just won't stop! Armed with an umbrella and soaked sandals, we walk towards the Hudson and turn right on Wythe Avenue. We spot another beautiful piece by street artist Roa.
We settle down for coffee at the cute café restaurant Cafe Mogador on Wythe Avenue. This little place has only been open since March 2012 and has an Arabic-Mediterranean menu—yum, yum! The crowd is super trendy, but what's new in Williamsburg? ;-).
On Wythe Avenue we walk past the beautiful Wythe hotelI had a fantastic time having drinks here last year! The rooftop bar is great in the summer, but with this weather, we'll skip the Wythe ;-). We'll walk all the way to 15th Street to Green Point. The further north you go in Williamsburg, the more industrial it gets from 10th Street onwards!
Green Point is the neighborhood north of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. It's super fun and not as crowded as Williamsburg. You'll find lovely boutiques and some super cool restaurants and cafes. If you're self-employed and want to work for a day, go to Yard, a bar with workspaces in Green Point.
Near Yard on Nassau Ave. you'll find OAKOne of the best stores in Green Point with a cool collection for women and men.
What's especially great about OAK is that, besides the super expensive items, they also have very affordable pieces. Jeans starting at $100!
It's time for drinks! We're walking to Torst on Manhattan Avenue. It's a beer hall with over 20 beers on tap. Bianca and I opt for a summer ale. It turns out to be one of the few beers not on tap, but in a really cool, designer can!
We have a few more beers at Torst. The crowd is a nice mix of hipsters and locals.
Near Torst, there's another great, nameless bar. It's just like Wolvenstraat in Amsterdam! The No Name Bar is a quaint little place where you can still see traces of an old Korean or Asian restaurant in the interior. Now, it's packed with hipsters enjoying drinks in the beautiful garden!
You'll find No Name Bar at 597 Manhattan Avenue in Green Point. It's about a 20-minute walk from Williamsburg to Green Point, so if you're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit!
It's dinner time! Earlier in the day we spotted the cozy little restaurant 5 Leaves. Perfect for a bite to eat on the terrace :-).
Of course, we have to wait a bit for a table, but we don't mind. We just order a Bloody Mary at the bar!
After dinner, we head back to Bedford Avenue. On the L train back to Manhattan, we're surprised by a really cool performance! They should do that on the Amsterdam subway sometime ;-).
Tomorrow, B. and I are going cycling in Brooklyn! See you soon :-).
