The holiday season has started and that means we are busy making plans for Sinterklaas, Christmas and New Years Eve. But while looking in the future, we may reflect on 2016 as well. I mean, the past year has been one big culinary celebration in Amsterdam. From early breakfast spots to 24-hour clubs, they came, same and conquered it all. In this blog we listed all of our favourite breakfast spots in Amsterdam that were the most popular on Your Little Black Book in 2016. All places that we still love to go to ourselves as well! Enjoy it when you go there.

teds amsterdam
Teds: Secretly, Teds opened a bit earlier than in 2016. But hey, when talking about best breakfast spots they definitely have to be in this list. From 08.00 in the morning (love!) you ca go here for breakfast, stick for brunch or a delicious high tea.

Metropolitain 2016 might just be the year of the Rokin. After years of renovations the transformation into beautiful promenade finally got some progress. Building fences and bricks were replaced by terraces and it made Metropolitain even more outstanding. At this all day breakfast spot you get the tastiest croissants, porridge, fruits, eggs benedict but also different crepes, sandwiches, burgers and salads.

Cocotte: The Spuistraat in the heart of the city centre is not the on top of mind street when looking for a breakfast spot. But things have changed big time since Cocotte by Hexagone opened its doors. From 09.00 hours this is the place to feast of the savory galettes, sweet crepes, full breakfasts, café gourmand, tarte tartin and more good foods. With its country-style décor inspired by the French countryside you definitely start your day in peace here.

The Breakfast Club: We already knew The Breakfast Club of their location in Amsterdam-West behind the Hallen, but this year we were pleasantly with not one, but two new locations in the city. We can now go to Amsterdam-East and the Haarlemmerplein as well to enjoy delicious pancakes, yoghurt bowls, juices and other yummy breakfasts.

Mook Pancakes 1
Mook pancakes: Perhaps the upgrade of the De Clercqstraat started by Mook Pancakes at the very end of 2015. With their pancakes, they give a whole new twist to the classic pancakes. Mook serves special combinations that makes us foodie heart beat faster. There’s the Chicken Madonna: a pancake with spinach and psicy chicken. Or how about the “mancake”: a triple pancake with crispy bacon and egg on top of it?

Tinner: Okay, Tinner falls somewhere between the two stools when talking about breakfast and lunch lists. The opening hours – from 10:00 to 16:00 – make Tinner at the Rokin best described as brunch heaven. So for those who love the late breakfast ;-) The menu features a Bloody Mary soup and other exotic dishes … Have you not been here yet, then now the time has come to check it off your list!

bar botanique amsterdam 600x450
Bar Botanique: If there’s one hotspot that came with a lot of hubbub, it’s Bar Botanique. They took over the building of the beloved former Ponteneur, where all the people from the neighbourhood came to seek & find coziness and good vibes. And now it was up to Bar Botanique to make up for it… and so it did. The interior of this new living room is green, greener, greenest and from 09.00 hours the doors are open to have breakfast in this cafe tropique.

Bar Basquiat: And another one in Amsterdam-East, ’cause also the Three Wise Men from the East worked their magic again. Bar Basquiat is the place where you walk in at any time of the day. With tasty sandwiches and cocktails on the menu, it’s the perfect place to stay all day ;-)!

bakers-roasters-amsterdam
Bakers & Roasters: Bakers & Roasters was already a favorite breakfast spot in De Pijp and last year they came with a second location on the Kadijksplein in Amsterdam-East. Both locations are open every day from 09.30 to 16.00 hours and they serve delicious brekkies. Let’s say an eggs benedict, coconut chia cereal bowl and the delicious Cubano sandwich. Check out Bakers & Roasters here >>

Ninour: Did you wake up late and want to start your day with a nice cup of tea? Then Ninour in De Pijp is a great place to start your day. All the dishes are deliciously healthy and the interior too is a feast. The menu includes spelled pancakes with coconut and banana, yoghurt bowls with nuts and seeds and green tahini.
