I think every neighbourhood should have a Nelis!
We love neighbourhood cafés. Nelis Amsterdam is a new restaurant at the Sumatrastraat in Amsterdam East that you should know. It reminds me of the places I used to go before Amsterdam was taken over by burger bars. A cosy café with reasonable priced, but very tasty, food and a cosy interior design. Nelis is a place where I would go with my friends or my love for a bite when we don’t want to spend more than € 50,- per person but want to eat out anyway.
The interior design at Nelis is nice and a mix of white tables with dark blue and shelves full of local delicious produce from delicatessen store Ambrozijn. The view on the open kitchen is really nice. You can see the Chef at work! And the food? Very nice and great value for money. No trendy stuff but some classics and dishes I never had before in Amsterdam. The shrimps in a sweet and spicy sauce are a must try! So good. Can’t wait to go back and order those again.
As the main dish I had the entrocote. Also very tasty and such a huge portion. If you’re not stuffed yet I can recommend to share the desserts. The cheesecake with passion fruit is delicious!
Good to know: freelancers are welcomed to work at Nelis during the day! There’s free wifi and enough power plugs. Not to forget about the good coffee!
