It's no secret that for one of the tastiest cheese fondues in Amsterdam, head to restaurant Smelt in the Jordaan or near Westerpark. Two locations with completely unique characters. How did it all begin? Right in the city center, in one of the Negen StraatjesFor years, you've been able to find Café de Doffer and De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam. Both are Amsterdam's most renowned establishments. They've merged to create a new concept where the cozy atmosphere of an Amsterdam café meets the delicious cheeses: Restaurant Smelt Amsterdam. Here you can enjoy delicious cheese fondue while feeling like you're in a typical Amsterdam pub. The second location at Westerpark It's completely different, but just as enjoyable and also fun to eat with a group. And if you want to do something fun beforehand? Then go to Fabrique des Lumières!

With a café and cheese shop as the driving force behind Smelt, you naturally expect the best of the best, and I have to say, both the atmosphere and the taste are spot on. This cheese fondue restaurant serves a variety of delicious cheese fondues with the finest cheeses; from Dutch to Swiss and from French to truffle cheese fondue. The Italian cheese fondue is a new addition this year and a must-try! Good to know: are you pregnant or vegan? Let them know in advance, and they can prepare a delicious pot of cheese fondue for you too!
The cheese fondue at Smelt Amsterdam is served with daily fresh-baked bread and fresh seasonal vegetables, and of course, a matching wine (or, for those who prefer, a craft beer). The best thing about Smelt's cheese fondue, and what sets it apart from the others? The last, crispy bit of cheese fondue, traditionally fried with an egg; the perfect ending before you tuck in.
Smelt is also a great place for lunch or drinks; on weekends, they're open from noon for a pot of cheese fondue. Want to start your afternoon or evening with some appetizers? That's possible too. Think appetizers and starters like egg mayonnaise, a charcuterie platter, artichoke cream, or caramelized carrot. And if you really don't like cheese fondue, try the duck confit as your main course at Smelt Amsterdam!

Smelt Amsterdam is one of the few restaurants in the city that offers a vegan cheese fondue. This fondue is made with fermented cashews and is definitely worth a try if you're vegan.
