For some, traveling is a luxury, for others it's a daily routine. But if we're honest, we all want to travel more, don't we ;-) ? Unfortunately, traveling costs quite a bit of money, and that money, unfortunately, doesn't grow on trees. I recently shared the most important budget travel tips with you, but today I'll also tell you all about how you can afford to travel more, without having to take on a second job!
Yes yes, the workation It's a real thing. And it's becoming increasingly popular to take a workation. During a workation, you combine work and vacation by traveling to a sunny destination and taking your laptop with you, so you can just keep working. So you're not just spending money, you're also earning money by continuing to work ;-) .
By not blindly booking the first trip you see, but by doing thorough research, you can save yourself a lot of money. Travel agencies often have special offers or discounts during certain periods. For example, KLM's World Deal Weeks are always very attractive. Keep a close eye on when these are! And of course, you don't want to go on holiday during peak season, as that's much more expensive. Thailand, for example, is also a great place to visit during the low, and therefore rainy, season. Those rain showers don't matter much, because they're always more fun in Thailand than in the Netherlands ;-) And in the case of a workation, you also create plenty of time to catch up on some overdue work. Tip: I often use [website name] for hotel bookings. dreamcheaper.comYou can email your reservation confirmation here, and if your reservation can be canceled up to a certain date, they will search for websites that offer the same hotel at a lower price.
Instead of an expensive hotel, you can also stay in a so-called posthtel Overnight stays. This can make quite a difference in price, and the more money you save, the more you can travel during the year!
When you think of a city break, you quickly think of the capitals. Also known as the A-cities. But if you want to travel more, you can also focus on the second-largest cities in a country. The B-cities. In many cases, they're just as fun, much cheaper, and less touristy. My favorite B-cities? Hamburg, Bordeaux, and Valencia!
When we travel, we naturally relax most when we're thoroughly pampered. But you don't have to stay in an expensive hotel every night for that ultimate holiday feeling. So, alternate hotels. Two nights in a cheaper hotel, one night in a more expensive one. This way, you'll enjoy the luxury even more and have that extra holiday feeling. Also handy: by regularly changing hotels, your holiday will seem even longer!
It might sound crazy, but by saving on the little things every day, you'll ultimately be able to travel much more often. So instead of grabbing that delicious cappuccino at the Starbucks around the corner, you're better off making coffee at home and frothing milk. Just as delicious and much cheaper! The money you save goes straight into your wanderlust fund!
Everyone naturally intends to put money aside every month, but when it comes down to it, you often spend it anyway. So, commit yourself to saving; you could, for example, set up an automatic monthly transfer to your savings account. I also recommend getting a good old-fashioned piggy bank and keeping it in a prominent place in your home. Regularly put small change in it, or occasionally slip in a €20,00 note if you can spare it. Be strict with yourself; only open the piggy bank at the end of the year! This way, you'll have a nice sum of money to travel more next year ;-) .
in my book Wanderlust I'll explain even more budget travel tips!
