Massalia Amsterdam: the French-Greek restobar from the owners of Gitane

Massalia is Greek for Marseille, a city in southern France originally founded by the Greeks. That happens to be the roots of chef Angelo Kremmydas, who also heads the popular Gitane. He introduced Amsterdam-West to the unique flavours of his homeland, and now it’s East’s turn.

Why you want to visit Massalia Amsterdam

It is almost unimaginable that Gitane only opened its doors in July 2023. In a very short time, the place grew into an established name within and outside Amsterdam. That sparked Angelo Kremmydas’ appetite – chef and owner of Gitane and soon Massalia Amsterdam. In July, he will open his second restaurant so that the residents of Amsterdam-East can also enjoy the unique flavours from his kitchen. Like no other, he brings together the best of the Mediterranean thanks to the typical ingredients from this region. The focus of the new Massalia will be on Angelo’s Greek heritage. ‘We are going to cook Greek in a bistro-brasserie style,’ he explained. ‘With lots of wine – natural and traditional wines – and cocktails, just like at Gitane.’ In addition to an ample indoor space, Massalia also offers a spacious terrace at the always lively Beukenplein.

Menu Massalia

In the location where Mama Dough and Rotisserie were previously located, you will now find Massalia. And what exactly is on the menu of this new place? The exact details are unknown, but the Instagram page already reveals much. There will be a significant role for seasonal vegetables, fresh fish, and the tastiest herbs from Angelo’s homeland. It will be a taste sensation, and a pleasant place to stay is a given. Now, just a little more patience.
