Massalia Restobar Amsterdam: the French-Greek restobar from the owners of Gitane
Massalia is Greek for Marseille, a city in southern France originally founded by the Greeks. And that just happens to be the roots of chef Angelo Kremmydas, who also helms the popular Gitane. He had Amsterdam west Already acquainted with the special flavours from his country of origin, now it is the East's turn.

Atmosphere and interior at Massalia Restobar Amsterdam
It's hard to believe that Gitane only opened its doors in July 2023. In a very short time, the place became an established name, both in Amsterdam and beyond. Angelo Kremmydas, chef and owner of Gitane and soon to be Massalia Amsterdam, must have thought it was a taste of the future. His second restaurant opened in July 2024, allowing residents of Amsterdam East to enjoy the unique flavors of his kitchen. Like no other, he brings together the best of the Mediterranean thanks to the typical ingredients of the region. The focus of Massalia will be on Angelo's Greek heritage. "We'll cook Greek food with a bistro-brasserie feel," he explains. "With plenty of wine – natural and traditional wines – and of course cocktails, like at Gitane." Besides a huge indoor space, Massalia also offers a spacious terrace on the always bustling Beukenplein.

Where Mama Dough and Rotisserie once stood, you'll now find Massalia. This delightful establishment focuses heavily on seasonal vegetables, fresh fish, and the finest herbs from Angelo's homeland. It's clear it's going to be a taste sensation and a wonderful place to linger, especially when you take a look at the menu. Think cassoulet with cod cheeks, celeriac with chestnut butter, and steak partaar with pickled beets.

Heading out of town? 🍂 These are my favorite walking and drinking spots in the Netherlands.
To be honest... I don't see myself living outside the city anytime soon, but on weekends I do enjoy getting out into nature. That's why I've created a YLBB shortlist of the most beautiful hiking areas, complete with a great spot for drinks nearby.
My perfect Sunday? First, a walk, then plopping down somewhere with a treat or a hot chocolate (or, of course, a glass of wine and bitterballen!).

I used to think Halloween was stupid 🎃.
But since I became a mother, it has become one of our favorite holidays!
