Food markets, flea markets, antique markets—it really doesn't matter what kind. It's the perfect way to get to know the city, its fresh and local produce, and its people. And who doesn't love shopping?! ;-) That's why we've compiled a list of our favorite markets in Athens for you. This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp, Antwerp's newest boutique hotel on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted the 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out).
I recently stayed at this gem, and it truly has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls adorned with creative art, beautiful, bright rooms, and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delightful restaurant, helmed by a chef who previously worked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know!

HOME ALONE 4 INCOMING 😅 My trip to NYC ends in a bad (Christmas) movie when the hotel gives my carry-on luggage with passport to an old lady who doesn't realize this and checks the luggage on a flight to the UK!
Now I'm stuck here in NY without a passport, and I missed my flight.
I've experienced a lot in all the years I've been traveling for Your Little Black Book, but this is a first 😅.
This chat video is purely therapeutic in nature 🤣🤣🤣. Because really: HOW?! 🫢
Note to self: it's better to carry your passport all day, instead of leaving it "safely" in the hotel, apparently... and from now on, attach suitcases with cables in the storage room. Even if you're staying in a luxurious and expensive hotel, everything is still done by humans.
Now I'm stuck in one of the world's coolest cities, but of course I just want to be home with Manuel, as planned. 😔

How cool is this? There are places in the Netherlands where you can cut down your own Christmas tree! You don't hear about it very often, even though it's quite common in America (where I'm currently!).
Good to know: some of these places in the Netherlands are only open for a few days a year and you have to reserve a time slot.

This time we went to @williams.farmhouse, one of my favorite lunch spots in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. But is it also fun during the day with kids?
We ordered a 'plain' version of the Farmhouse burger 🍔: yes, really just meat + cheese 🤣… and together with the fries it was a mega success.
Happy child, happy us... and it was such a cozy, rainy afternoon. I mean, this interior makes me dream of the Cotswolds again!

5 markets in Athens to visit during your city trip
Varvakeios: The largest market in Athens is Varvakeios Market. It's not just locals who shop, but also chefs who buy fresh fish, nuts, vegetables, and meat. The market is divided into two sections. In the covered section, you'll find fresh meat and fish, and you can even dine at traditional, local mini-restaurants serving homemade dishes. Opposite the covered section are the fruit and vegetable stalls. Besides fruit and vegetables, you can also buy olives, wine, nuts, and sweets.
You will find the market between Monastiraki and Omonia on Athinas Street and it is open from Monday to Saturday until 15.00pm.
Varvakeios
Monastiraki Flea Market: If you're looking for fun Greek souvenirs, this flea market is the place to be. Quite touristy, but no less fun. You can find some really great items here at a great price. Think leather sandals and backpacks, nice jewelry, and lots of trinkets for everyone's home. Visit the flea market as early as possible to avoid the crowds and the heat.
Ifestou, Athens, Greece
Antiques and flea market: On Sundays, Avyssinias Square hosts a large vintage/antique market where you can find absolutely anything. By 8:00 a.m., the vendors have set up shop, souvlaki is grilled, and it's already quite busy. Whether you're looking for secondhand sneakers, a velvet chair, Greek paintings, or handmade jewelry, you'll find it at the market. You can also shop for antiques in Athens on other days. When you're strolling through the Monastiraki flea market, it's a must to wander into the narrow side streets to check out the small antique shops and hidden coffee spots, such as TAF.
Avyssinias Square, Athens – Greece
Laiki agoraAlso known as the farmers' market. Here you can expect a wealth of fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the fields. Every neighborhood in Athens has its own Laiki once a week, but the market in Kolonaki is unique. Every Friday, you can visit the organic market where all the produce sold is locally grown. Think fruits and vegetables, but also local wine, olive oil, honey, yogurt, herbs, and olives.
The market is every Friday from 9.00am to 13.00pm and is located on Dexamenis Square in Kolonaki
Thissio: If you're looking for jewelry and handmade goods, head to the Thissio neighborhood. At the beginning of Apostolou Pavlou Street, there's a market you can enjoy browsing. The street was made car-free for the 2004 Olympic Games, and this hasn't changed since. Street vendors gather daily to show off their wares and hopefully sell them. What can you find here? Think silver jewelry, vintage cameras, watches, coins, secondhand leather bags, clothing, and of course, plenty of trinkets. Artists and musicians also fill the stalls, creating a lively atmosphere.
