Vegan or not, it really doesn't matter at Margo's Amsterdam. Even the biggest butter fan has to admit: Margo's baked goods are simply incredible. Butter or no butter. And the success is undeniable, because after the popular first location in the Jordaan, a second location has now opened in Amsterdam-West.
The newest branch of Margo's Amsterdam is located in a popular neighborhood: Bellamyplein in Amsterdam West, a stone's throw from De Hallen, Parole, and other great spots. It's the kind of place where you're automatically drawn in. Whether it's the aroma of fresh coffee and freshly baked (sweet) treats, or the friendly atmosphere and warm interior—probably a combination of all.
The interior is stylish and inviting, with terracotta-colored walls and plenty of light wood. You'll want to linger here, whether you're in a hurry or not.
Everything you order here is 100% vegan, but that's not a sales pitch. The dishes speak for themselves, and the menu is surprisingly diverse. From 11:30 a.m., sandwiches with names like "hoisin duck" and "satay!" are on the menu. No meat, fish, or dairy, but you won't miss it at all.
What you absolutely must try? The twisted tahini bun, inspired by a classic Cypriot recipe. Just like the tahini latte, a unique drink that pairs perfectly with something sweet from the display case.
In terms of pastries, the "Danish" is highly recommended: a layered, triangular roll made with vegan croissant dough, with a constantly changing topping. There are always three or four flavors to choose from.
Good to know: Margo's doesn't use sunflower or coconut oil, but shea butter. This not only makes the baked goods tastier, but also lighter and more digestible.
Whether you're on the go, looking for a nice spot for lunch, or just craving something delicious with coffee, Margo's is the place to be. This new location in West is also a great addition to the neighborhood scene for takeaway or catering.
