Walk the 3 Magical Light Routes

One of the things I love about the winter months is the beautiful lights in the city. In Maastricht, they take it even further! Until mid-January, the cozy, atmospheric streetlights are unmissable, and a magical ribbon of lights guides you through the various neighborhoods of the city center: from the trendy Wyck and modern Céramique to the industrial Sphinxkwartier and romantic Jekerkwartier. Walk these Magical Light Routes and discover more about the historical, cultural, and culinary treasures Maastricht has to offer. And if you see a nice stop along the way, you can do your Christmas shopping in the charming shops. View the Magical Light Routes in Maastricht here >>

explore the 4 different neighborhoods in Maastricht

I mentioned them briefly, but Maastricht is so much more than just the famous Vrijthof square. During Magical Maastricht, I definitely recommend exploring the different neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has a completely different atmosphere, but what they all have in common is that they're packed with fun hotspots!

Wyck: If you're traveling to Maastricht by train, Wyck is the neighborhood you'll pass through as you head towards the Sint Servaas Bridge. It's definitely a neighborhood worth taking the time to explore, with hotspots like NOON, Van Wijck, restaurant Onglet, and fine dining restaurant Studio.

The Sphinxkwartier: Once primarily industrial, the Sphinxkwartier has been fully developed in recent years. Stroll along the beautifully lit Boschstraat to the Sphinxkwartier or visit rooftop bar Bold, Cafe-Restaurant Lumière (where you can also see the movies), and Novo New Dining.

The Jekerkwartier: In the Jekerkwartier, you can catch your breath after the hustle and bustle of the city center. It's also known as Maastricht's "Quartier Latin," and for good reason. With its picturesque streets lined with small shops, galleries, and numerous restaurants and cafes, it's one of the city's most photogenic and charming neighborhoods. Don't miss Le Fernand and restaurant Brandsøn, where you can enjoy delicious food.

Stokstraatkwartier: This charming part of Maastricht is located between the city center and the Jekerkwartier district. The streets are narrow and the bars small, and it's the place to be for those who love designer brands and shop in the stylish boutiques.
