Shopping at Schiphol: these are the 14 shops you will go to the airport early for (I promise!)

The best shops at Schiphol range from beauty favorites at Today Duty Free and fashion at My Jewellery to luxury shopping at Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Hermès. In this YLBB shortlist, I share my favorite stores for a shopping spree before departure, including great tips for last-minute travel essentials.

These days, I visit nowhere as many physical stores as when I fly from Schiphol. It might sound crazy, but when in everyday life do you still have plenty of time to shop? During the week you are at work, on weekends we race from sports to appointments, and you might easily order many things online. That is precisely why I find it so wonderful to actually walk into shops at Schiphol again. Smelling perfume, trying out new skincare products, testing lipstick colors, and finally holding that designer bag I’ve looked at online a hundred times in real life. And if I have some extra time left? I sometimes even squeeze in a quick massage. Believe me: that is when your journey truly starts to feel relaxed.

What makes Schiphol extra fun for me is that you find so many different types of shops all in one place. From Dutch brands to beauty, fashion, big international luxury brands, or shops for that last-minute travel emergency. And yes, I have my regular routine by now. I know exactly where I get my favorite mascara, which shops I always pop into, and where there's a good chance I'll end up buying something that wasn't on my shopping list ;-).

Where you go shopping naturally depends on where you are flying to. Before security, you can already browse at Schiphol Plaza. After security, the selection differs if you are flying within Europe compared to intercontinental travel. In this guide, I share all my favorite shops, and I would say: save it for your next trip!

Best shops at Schiphol for security

You can also do some good shopping at Schiphol before going through security. At Schiphol Plaza, you will find various shops where you can shop even without a boarding pass. This is handy if you discover just before departure that you have forgotten something after all, but also if you are picking someone up or dropping someone off and want to have a quick look around.

UP TO DO GOOD

If you aren't familiar with UP TO DO GOOD yet, be sure to stop by next time. In this concept store, you'll find brands that focus on sustainability and social impact, with an assortment that will make you want to buy everything. Think fashion, accessories, design, beauty, and gifts. I especially like popping in here when I'm looking for a gift that's just a little bit different. Moreover, a portion of the proceeds goes to charity. So, shopping with a clear conscience. View the location and opening hours here >>

HEMA

No matter how well I pack my suitcase, even I sometimes find myself standing at Schiphol and suddenly realizing there is something at home. A charger, something for my toiletry bag, or just snacks for the journey. So remember that there is a HEMA at Schiphol Plaza. Maybe not the store you would specifically head to the airport for, but during a last-minute travel emergency, you’ll be very glad it’s there ;-). Check the location and opening hours here >>

My Jewelery

To be honest, I still can't walk into a My Jewellery without seeing something I didn't know I needed five minutes earlier. A piece of jewelry to go with my vacation outfits, a cute phone accessory (love their phone lanyards), or perhaps even some clothing. So, at Schiphol, I almost always pop into this Dutch (and very affordable) brand to see what's new. And the good news? This store is now at Schiphol Plaza too! Check out the locations and opening hours here >>

Shopping after security when flying within Europe

Are you flying within Europe? I previously wrote about everything that is new when you depart from here, and it is really worth heading to the airport a little earlier for these tips.

Today Duty Free

When I walk in here, I almost automatically head towards the beauty department first. The range is huge, and besides the well-known perfume and beauty brands, you'll also find Le Labo, Charlotte Tilbury, Aesop, Caudalie, and Nuxe. It's especially nice if you want to try a product in real life first. Smelling a perfume, testing a cream, or finally taking your time to see which lipstick color suits you best. At other times, I almost never take the time for that.

But walk a little further, because Today Duty Free has much more than just beauty products. You'll find drinks, chocolate, and gifts, among other things. I always take a quick look to see what's new and regularly have to remind myself of the shopping list I brought inside ;-). View the locations and opening hours here >>

Donsje Amsterdam

For the very youngest travelers, Donsje Amsterdam is, in my opinion, one of the nicest shops at Schiphol. Everything looks so beautiful that you almost automatically walk out with a gift. From the recognizable shoes and clothing to accessories and items designed especially for the store at Schiphol. Even if you no longer have small children yourself, it is a great place to remember for a baby gift or something special for a child you will be visiting during your trip. And honestly: those mini-items are almost irresistible. View the locations and opening hours here >>

Fashion Gallery

For fashion and accessories, I always pop into Fashion Gallery. You'll find various brands together there, including Marc Jacobs, Furla, and American Vintage. I also highly recommend the bags by Marrea. They are timeless and can take a beating (especially when traveling). Flying to a sunny destination? Then be sure to check out the sunglasses as well. Convenient: you can find this store at multiple locations . View the locations and opening hours here >>

| TIP: If you are flying within Europe, you can also shop at My Jewellery after security . They actually have two locations at Schiphol!

Chocolate House

I would happily make a detour in Paris for Pierre Hermé macarons. So, the fact that you can now buy them at Schiphol Airport is, in my opinion, quite dangerous for my hand luggage ;-). At Chocolate House, you'll find the first Pierre Hermé counter in the Netherlands, featuring the famous macarons and chocolate. They also sell Dutch chocolate brands such as MADAQ, De Bonte Koe, and Visser Chocolate. Want to treat yourself to the ultimate indulgence? Then get macarons here to go with your coffee . Rituals & Mind Oasis

When I fly, there is almost always something from Rituals in my carry-on. The hand cleansing gel is a staple and has often saved me during travels after a round of street food. The scrub with the nice coarse grains also remains a favorite, especially when I'm heading to a sunny destination. But I wouldn't walk into this branch of the store just for the products. At the back of the shop is the Mind Oasis, where you can completely unwind just before departure. I tested the Brain Massage earlier in Amsterdam and was truly amazed by the effect. Using light, sound, vibrations, and breathing, you are completely taken out of your daily rush in a short time. Do you have time left before your flight? Then I would definitely book a moment for yourself here. View the locations and opening hours here >>

Shopping after security when flying intercontinentally

Are you flying intercontinentally? Then you have even more choice after security if you want to shop. Besides the well-known stores, you will also find the major international fashion houses here. If you have enough time before boarding, you can also walk between the different sections via the Holland Boulevard. Something I regularly do myself.

| TIP: I already wrote about Today Duty Free , but even if you are flying intercontinentally, you will always find a branch before boarding.

ExQuisite

Whisky and cognac lovers, take note! Do you want really good advice on a fine bottle to pour a glass of on special evenings? Then you must stop by ExQuisite at Schiphol. As far as I'm concerned, a glass of whisky during the cold weather months is the perfect digestif after a long evening of dining with friends. View the location and opening hours here >>

Burberry

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve stood at Burberry with that classic tartan check cashmere scarf in my hands. For me, this is truly an item you buy once and then enjoy for the rest of your life. Timeless, warm, and something you can take out of the closet every autumn. Maybe I should treat myself this fall after all when I fly via Schiphol again… Especially now that I’m fully in my British countryside phase. From the pubs and country hotels to long walks, cozy interiors, and that whole English atmosphere. I hereby decide that it has to go off the wishlist and into my closet. More luxury brands at Schiphol

Do you, like me, have a weakness for investing in items that you will enjoy not just for one season, but for years? Then don't skip the 'luxury street', as I always call it, at Schiphol . Various major fashion houses are gathered here, and you can finally see those items from your online wishlist in real life. Even when I don't need anything, I still pop in for a quick look for inspiration. Just to see what's new and, in the meantime, continue dreaming about that one purchase that will eventually come.

  • Louis Vuitton: For me, LV remains inextricably linked to travel. As far as I'm concerned, the large shopper is almost made for carry-on luggage, because so much fits inside. My own bum bag, on the other hand, often comes along on city trips. Worn crossbody, it is exactly the right size, and I keep my most important belongings safe with me.
  • Bulgari: This is mainly about the jewelry. Especially with a special purchase, I like to try an item on first and look at it at my leisure. And if a birthday, anniversary, or other milestone is coming up, you can of course already get some inspiration here ;-).
  • Gucci: I continue to find it impressive how Gucci reinvents itself time and again. The brand is more distinctive, but even those items eventually make a comeback in fashion. Almost ten years ago, I bought my first classic Gucci belt at Schiphol, and if I am to believe the September issues of the major magazines, I will be able to wear it extensively again this season.
  • Hermes: My own Hermès scarf has by now proven that a good designer purchase can take any outfit to the next level. I wear it as a belt with trousers, in a triangle over a dress, or simply as a scarf. At the store at Schiphol, I always take a look at all the prints and colors of the iconic silk scarves. Dangerous for the wishlist, though.

Then choose P6 Valet Parking: you park, hand over your keys, and walk directly to the departure hall via a covered route. Convenient: P6 also has charging stations for electric cars.
