3 X the nicest neighborhoods in Istanbul to visit

The best neighborhoods in Istanbul: the hipster, the famous and the Asian!

Besides a European and an Asian part, Istanbul also consists of many different Neighborhoods and districts. Sultanahmet, for example, where you'll find the famous Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and the Grand Bazaar—the tourist hotspot. But you understand that, as a travel blogger, I've been looking for other neighborhoods: the striking ones, the neighborhoods with the most income, and the neighborhoods with the best hotspots. Are you traveling to Istanbul soon and want to know which neighborhoods are truly worth a visit? Then read this blog about the 3 best neighborhoods in Istanbul!

>> Istanbul's hipster district: Karaköy >>

I can't help but start with Istanbul's hipster neighborhood: Karaköy! Located in the southernmost tip of the Beyoglu district, this Bosphorus neighborhood used to be a red-light district. It's an old harborside neighborhood. But now you'll find the best restaurants, coffee shops, and bars here. Enjoy coffee at Karabatak, lunch at Pim, dinner at Gaspar, and drinks at Unter. Every few meters, you'll find a new hotspot! And check out the side streets for some cool street art!

>> Istanbul's most famous district: Taksim >>

In the Beyoglu district, you'll also find the well-known Taksim neighborhood. Taksim Square, where major demonstrations took place less than two years ago, is also a popular spot. Here you can shop on the city's main shopping street: Istiklal Street. It's also the place to go out. Cafes, clubs, and rooftop bars abound. My favorite spots are Mama Shelter, Münferit, and Ara Cafe. Want to be a tourist (or have sore feet)? Hop on the Beyoglu tram and let it whisk you through the shopping street. Cheesy, but actually quite fun!

>> Istanbul's nicest Asian neighborhood: Kadiköy >>

When you're in Istanbul, a visit to the Asian side of the city is a must. Take a ferry across the Bosphorus (and get a breath of fresh air) and head to Kadiköy! Kadiköy is one of the oldest districts, and you'll notice a different atmosphere than the European side. More relaxed, quieter, and more authentic. Visit the Bazaar or the fish market, have a picnic on the promenade, or dine at excellent seafood restaurants.
