Another great spot where you'd love to spend all day, seven days a week: De Uurwerker. There's a small queue for the terrace in the summer, but it's definitely worth it in the mornings too. After all, there's nothing better than a good cup of coffee in a beautiful courtyard, right?

At Coffee Break, they do things a little differently: oat milk (or another plant-based milk) is the standard; cow's milk is a small premium. Furthermore, the selection is largely vegan.

Besides coffee, they also have excellent wine here – so it just depends on what you're in the mood for. An added bonus: you have a view of the Vismarkt.

Masmas is like an extension of your living room in one of Groningen's most charming streets. And the coffee? It's better than at home.

Wadapartja has two locations, and both are equally good. The name is difficult to pronounce for a non-Groningen native, but if you read it out loud, you'll understand: "How strange, yes"—a typical Groningen expression. Fortunately, the coffee is anything but unusual; it's simply excellent.

Your morning can't get any better than starting it with a good book and equally good coffee, right? That's the order of the day here.

Another spot on Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat: Black & Bloom. Their passion for coffee shines through in everything they do. True purists, you might say. And that means the coffee needs little extra embellishment. Filter coffee or espresso is the best choice here.

The aroma of freshly baked bread will greet you right away. Paais is the perfect place to start your day. Sweet, savory, or both: they have the most delicious homemade rolls, cakes, and more. Tip: try the banana bread.
