7 Fun things to do during your beach holiday in Chalkidiki (Greece)

Our very first holiday as a brand-new family was to Chalkidiki in Greece. A destination I had discovered a few years earlier when I went to Thessaloniki for a travel blog conference. Now, six years later, we are back on the beautiful peninsula, and I can emphatically confirm: this destination is perfect for families with kids at every stage of life. The friendliness and family-forward mindset of the Greeks certainly contribute to this. This time, we stayed at the beautiful Kappa Luxury Villas & Suites via Eliza was here , and with its amazing private pool, it is definitely highly recommended. What can you do on the Kassandra peninsula during your holiday in Chalkidiki? In this travel guide, I have listed the best things to do in Chalkidiki, Greece, for you.

7 Fun things to do in Chalkidiki during your beach holiday in Greece

Sun, sea, sand, and relaxation with a view of the Aegean Sea. These tips are perfect for a beach holiday in Chalkidiki.

Sailing with Babasails

As far as I'm concerned, a day on the water is a must in Chalkidiki. In the Paliouri area, you can book various sailing trips via Babasails where you can swim and snorkel endlessly in the most beautiful bays. There is a 7-hour cruise, a 5-hour cruise, or a sunset cruise that lasts about 3 hours. All tours are private charters, and you can discuss with the captain exactly what you want to do and what is important to you. The routes are all slightly different, and you can bring your own snacks on board. I always find it so amazing to be on the water. The feeling of freedom and the beautiful vistas never get old. During this cruise, we swam in the crystal-clear water in the light of the setting sun. Magical! I booked this trip via the WhatsApp number on the site. They then immediately advise which boats and cruises are still available to book during the period you are in Chalkidiki! More info & booking >>

A different beach club every day

During our week in Chalkidiki, we visited a different beach club almost every day. From super hip to chic or very authentic, you'll find it all there. Good to know: at almost all beach clubs, there is a minimum amount to spend on food and drinks in exchange for sunbeds and parasols. Also, bring water shoes so you can walk straight into the sea from the pebble beach. Discover the best beach clubs in Chalkidiki here >>

Taste the Greek cuisine

I've loved Greek food since I was a child. The ingredients, spices, and flavors never tire of me. It's no wonder that the Netherlands is also seeing a wave of modern Greek restaurants, run by talented chefs with Greek roots. In Chalkidiki, there are numerous restaurants where you can enjoy authentic Greek food. Try the most delicious cold salads like tzatziki, fava beans, or tarama. Delicious with homemade pita bread. I'm also a huge fan of grilled octopus, zucchini fritters with feta, and chicken souvlaki. We ate them almost every day! I was thrilled to see that almost every restaurant served Greek wines. They paired beautifully with the Greek dishes at lunch! After a day at the beach, order a gyro sandwich at one of the roadside taverns. Deliciously crispy and juicy at the same time, cut straight off the spit. Some nice beach restaurants to remember are: Navagos, Octo, Mare Nostra, Mamalouka, Fiki Fiki and Agora.

Bring snorkel masks

Don't expect corals like you might see in Asia. Still, I would definitely bring your snorkel mask to Chalkidiki. You can snorkel right from the beach, and there's plenty to see and explore, especially for younger kids. Manuel is now six and snorkeled several times a day with a special mask for children. So much fun to see and do together!

Dine in the garden at Mnēmes Farm

Farm-to-table restaurant Mnēmes Farm is by far the best place to dine that's not on the beach. The dishes they serve are made with ingredients from their own farm. The lush garden almost makes you feel like you're at an Ibiza hotspot, but nothing could be further from the truth. This unique restaurant is right in Chalkidiki! Reservations are essential, and you can easily do so via WhatsApp. The menu features simple, no-frills dishes, occasionally adorned with an edible flower from the herb garden. The chicken is a must-try! This restaurant is also great for kids: there are various animals in the restaurant's garden, such as chickens, ducks, and cats.

Spend a day in Thessaloniki

Do you enjoy combining city and beach? Then head to Thessaloniki on your arrival or departure day. Chances are you'll either arrive early or depart late. With your rental car, you can easily drive to the boulevard of this port city. Stroll through the old town, grab a bite to eat at a taverna, or visit the trendy Mamalouka (which, by the way, also has a beach club in Chalkidiki). I've been to Thessaloniki a few times for a city break and definitely recommend exploring it!

Enjoy the sunset and sunrise

When I think of Greece, I immediately think of the beautiful powdery colors of the sky during sunset. The hills and mountains like a blanket in the background. From our suite at Kappa Luxury Villas & Suites, we could enjoy this 'at home' too. Although the sunrises there were at least as beautiful. With purple, blue, and bright orange, and a different progression every fifteen minutes. Early in the morning, you can even see the 2033-meter-high Mount Athos, two peninsulas away, which is almost as pointed as a volcano. Believe me, I enjoyed these moments from our terrace!
