Le Grand Hornu Mons: for your lazy Sunday

1 July 2015

A dose of culture at Le Grand Hornu in mons

What do you do on Sunday in Mons? Can you picture this? You’re away for a weekend to a fun city in Belgium and on Sunday you want to do something before going home. Turns out everything is closed for the day. My tip: check out if the museums are open and save these for Sunday!

Le Grand Hornu Mons

If you’re in Mons then Le Grand Hornu is really worth visiting. An old industrial mining complex that’s less than 10km away from Mons. Here you can find museums for modern art and design with temporary expositions. The complex is beautifully renovated and very impressive. They have different exhibits every few months so check out their website for the latest agenda.

We highly recommended to lunch or brunch at restaurant La Brasserie du Grand Hornu. This museum-restaurant is also mentioned in the Gault Millau and serves delicious food. It might be smart to book a table beforehand, because it can be really busy. For the lunch they serve a 3 course menu.

Fun fact: Le Grand Hornu is listed as Unesco heritage.
