It's still a long way from barbecue season, but this food trend is absolutely hot this spring: Korean BBQ. I'm absolutely crazy about this trend myself; it's so delicious. And it reminds me a bit of gourmet cooking. Another thing I absolutely love! NO JOKE. When I go to big cities like New York I always look for the best Korean BBQ restaurant in the area, where we'll eat at least once a night (or more). One of those delicious low-key spots with an ugly interior. Just because you don't want to spend every night at hotspots. Let me tell you all about this trend with this Korean BBQ 101!
Korean BBQ doesn't use a real barbecue, but a grill in the center of the table. You're supposed to prepare all the dishes yourself, so it's somewhat similar to gourmet cooking, but with an Asian twist. You use various types of meat and poultry, such as beef, duck, and pork. Or fish like squid, often served with a delicious marinade.
While you're grilling it on the grill, you cut the meat into thin strips. Yes, you cut it with scissors! These are a standard feature of the restaurant. Then you eat the meat in a lettuce leaf with kimchi, garlic, and hot sauce. At most Korean BBQ restaurants, everything you put in the lettuce leaf is served as a side with the meat. The tastiest Korean BBQ dish? Bulgolgi! This is beef marinated in a mix of soy, sesame oil, garlic, pepper, scallions, and brown sugar. You can try making this marinade at home too. It's delicious!
Korean BBQ restaurants are popping up all over the Netherlands, but if you have a grill, you can also enjoy this delicious food trend at home. A great Korean BBQ restaurant in Amsterdam is Yokiyo, highly recommended!
