Attention art and culture lovers! Until March 30, 2025, the Royal Palace Amsterdam is a hotspot for art lovers. The exhibition Royal Award for Free Painting 2025 offers you a unique opportunity to admire the work of fifteen up-and-coming artists. And believe me: you'll want to discover these talents now, before they conquer the art world!
In this 154th edition, winning artists Taqwa Ali, Akiboji, Gegee Ayurzana, and Eniwaye Oluwaseyi shine with works ranging from abstract and experimental to hyperrealistic. The diversity of styles and themes makes this exhibition particularly captivating, something I found so incredibly rewarding to witness during my previous visits to this annual exhibition.
Did you know that this prestigious award has been presented since 1871? King Willem III set the tone back then, and since then, the award has become a springboard for young artists. This year, on January 31st, King Willem-Alexander personally presented the award to three talented artists, each taking home €9.000 to further develop their artistic practice. And that's precisely what makes this award and exhibition so special; it truly is a springboard for emerging talent.
In addition to the winners' work, the other nominees will also be on display during this exhibition. During your visit, you can vote for the Audience Award. By casting your vote, you'll also have a chance to win the winning painting. How wonderful and special would that be? A unique work of art on your wall, discovered by you at the Royal Palace!
Besides the new exhibition, the Royal Palace Amsterdam is definitely worth a visit. If you've never been, go! Wander through the impressive halls and learn more about the history of Amsterdam and the Palace. Until March 30th, the modern artworks contrast beautifully with the building's historic grandeur.
This exhibition is only on view for a short time, so don't miss it!
Book your tickets easily online via the official website and immerse yourself in the future of Dutch painting.
Do you have a Museum Card? Then the visit to the Palace is even completely free. It's also a great way to combine it with the Mokumtour, the audio tour of the Palace in collaboration with Ommetje met Tom.
I'm curious which artwork you'll vote for! Let me know via @yourlbb if you go?
