From mega hip to über classic. In this list, I have lined up the most beautiful estates and castles in the Netherlands where you can stay overnight. Perfect for a lovely weekend getaway for two (although some of the suggestions do have family rooms, should you wish to bring the kid(s) along). I have planned staycations myself this summer at a number of the places on this list and can't wait to wander through the gardens and settle down in the grass with a good book. Of course, you can visit a nearby city during the day, but my advice would be to definitely not do that. Enjoy the peace and quiet, take a walk around the estate, or perhaps there is a forest nearby. Take time for yourself and for each other, and sit down for a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant in the evening. Normally, many of the castle hotels are fully booked for large weddings, but something tells me that will be less the case this year. Take advantage of it. Enjoy!

@eetcafe_de_reiger is the spot to remember.
Cozy, casual, and a seasonal menu. This one was on my list to share for a year and finally it's (almost) asparagus season again! 🤤
Another plus? Prices are very reasonable here!
📍 Eetcafé de Reiger

Save this spot for when you're craving warm Dutch traditional dishes in the heart of Amsterdam.
And did you hear the same team took over Eetcafé van Beeren? I can't wait to go there too!

A cookbook from Grandma. Three Michelin stars. And a beautiful 70s villa in a quiet neighborhood in Bangkok, where you are welcomed as if you were at the chefs' home.
The Sühring brothers do not cook based on trends; they cook from memories. Of their grandmother's farm, of the flavors of their youth in Germany, and of techniques passed down through generations.
@relaischateaux invited me to experience Sühring during a solo lunch, and this is truly my ultimate definition of culinary self-care.
This was a surprising afternoon in Bangkok, where I ate the best German food I have ever tasted. And that in a city where I normally avoid European restaurants. Well, for @restaurant_suhring, you really want to make that exception.
Signature dishes that I still think back to regularly?
🍴 Labskaus with caviar
🍴 Enleta waffle with Pfalz vinegar
🍴 Game pie
🍴 Dry aged Duck
TIP: If you go to Sühring, reserve the seats at the kitchen bar so you have a view of the chefs at work!

In this reels I take you along for fine dining in Bangkok at the three Michelin starred restaurant Sühring.

This is one of the nicest free outings in the spring! Did you know that you can gather (or pick, for the connoisseurs 😉) oysters yourself in various places in the Netherlands? I’m in Zeeland for a bit this weekend, and if we can, we’ll go again.
📍In this video, I show where you can fill your bucket.
Comment oester for the comprehensive guide with all details about all 8 locations + handy tips and rules.
Important to know:
– Max. 10 kilos per person (≈ 1 bucket)
– For personal use only
– Do not scoop or scrape the soil
– Go at low tide
Handy to take with you:
Bucket, screwdriver, boots, work gloves, tea towel, clean clothes and garbage bags (for the oysters and dirty clothes).
And of course: also bring an oyster knife, lemon and champagne 🍋🥂Because you want to taste something right away!
The oyster season runs from September to about April / early May, so now that the water isn't so cold, this is the perfect outing.
In the full guide, I share exactly where you can easily find them without much effort. Leave a comment and I'll send it to you right away!
Who do you want to go oyster collecting with soon?

From a free event to try new Limited Subs at @ijveramsterdam to slow mornings, a market stroll (or two), maybe finally ticking off that new restaurant that's been on your list for weeks… and ending somewhere with a good glass of wine while telling yourself “just one more” 😉

Château Holtmühle: Ever dreamed of spending the night in a real castle? At Bilderberg Château Holtmühle in Tegelen, you can! In the verdant North Limburg region, near Venlo, you'll experience historic charm combined with modern luxury. Stroll through the Meuse Valley, visit Venlo, or shop at the Designer Outlet Roermond. In the evening, relax at Restaurant Die Alde Heerlickheijt, where the castle's former vaulted cellars are still visible. So romantic! This hotel is perfect for a fairytale weekend getaway in your own country!

Plantation Rococo: Our staycation at this fantastically renovated estate is already planned. And although we haven't stayed there ourselves yet, I wanted to share this tip with you. From the team behind Plantage Vogelenzang (our go-to spot when we go hiking in the Waterleidingduinen), this bohemian dream with a rock 'n' roll edge is opening at the Waterland Estate in Velsen-Zuid. More to follow soon in a full review, but you can already book it for a perfect staycation.

Park Broekhuizen: Believe me, you'll forget the worries of a busy workweek the moment you drive up the long driveway to Parc Broekhuizen. This unique hotel is so beautiful, you'll want to stay here! We stayed here just before they quickly earned their first Michelin star in 2018 for restaurant Voltaire. A Hollywood Regency-style restaurant where you can sit down for a leisurely dinner.

Kerckebosch Castle: Find the romance you only know from fairytales in the tower room of Kerckebosch Castle in Zeist. After a day exploring the wooded surroundings of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, settle in for dinner at one of the two restaurants. The four-poster rooms are a true experience: carved entirely from wood and adorned with ornate details. Sleeping like a fairytale has never been so realistic…

Wittenburg Castle: This beautiful castle, located near The Hague, is a great alternative for a city break. It boasts a lovely terrace and a delightful, large garden with ample space for all guests. The interior is classic, just as you'd expect from a castle. Luxurious fabrics adorn the rooms, each decorated in a unique style. Breakfast can be served in your room, complete with style. A truly special morning experience! If you stay here, be sure to visit the Voorlinden Museum. It's a must-see!

Coevorden Castle – Hotel de Vlijt: Okay, okay, the rooms aren't in the castle itself, but in a former granary next to Coevorden Castle. A staycation here will take you to one of the most remote corners of the Netherlands. The German border is just a 5-minute drive away. The hotel rooms are modern, and there's an on-site restaurant, so you don't even have to leave the house for dinner or lunch.

Engelenburg Castle: Near the Hanseatic city of Zutphen, you can stay at Kasteel Engelenburg in a beautiful, classical castle. The conservatory, where you can also dine, feels like you're in a greenhouse. It's the perfect base for a romantic weekend getaway, close to both the city and the Veluwe's natural beauty.

Terworm Castle: Give your weekend an extra romantic touch and stay in Heerlen, Limburg, at Terworm Castle, a castle built in 1400. This estate has everything you need to completely unwind. Relax with a day at the on-site wellness center, take a bike ride through the South Limburg hills, or go for a walk together in the beautiful surroundings.

Country estate Vaeshartelt: On the outskirts of Maastricht, you can stay in a unique hotel. Buitenplaats Vaeshartelt is nestled in a green setting and is perfect for combining the charm of Burgundian Maastricht with a weekend in nature. The restaurant uses ingredients from its own vegetable garden and orchard.

Oud-Poelgeest Castle Estate: Near Leiden (highly recommended for a day trip!) lies the large Oud-Poelgeest estate. Here you'll find several buildings, including the coach house, which has been converted into a hotel. The rooms are modernly furnished and are located in an annex of the former coach house. After breakfast, take a stroll around the estate and visit Oud-Poelgeest Castle, for example. Good to know: The hotel has its own restaurant.

Hotel Bloemendal: Also in South Limburg, even further south than Heerlen, near the Belgian-German border, lies Hotel Bloemendal in Vaals. A historic castle with recently renovated rooms equipped with every modern luxury. Request a suite with a sauna for your own mini wellness experience, complete with a whirlpool and separate rain shower.

Lauswolt Estate: Beetsterzwaag, Friesland, is home to the five-star hotel Landgoed Lauswolt. With a golf course, wellness facilities, Michelin-starred restaurant De Heeren van Harinxma, a rural setting, and boundless hospitality, romance is guaranteed. Tip: book a junior suite with a stunning view of the estate.

Maurick Castle: What an impressive castle! Looking for a weekend getaway for two, without the kids? Kasteel Maurick is an adults-only castle hotel with a delightful restaurant, a large garden, and a terrace. Fun fact: Kasteel Maurick's restaurant is listed in the Lekker500 (Dutch food magazine). I find the rooms very cozy and warmly decorated. Modern, classic... I can already picture myself there in the fall! You can rent bikes at the hotel. You can explore the countryside or cycle to 's-Hertogenbosch, which is about 8 kilometers away.
