Fancy a bit of ice-skating in Amsterdam? Good news, it’s time to dust off those skates because the most enjoyable ice rinks in Amsterdam are opening (almost) again! Luckily, you don’t have to wait for the temperature to drop towards freezing this year. The season at Jaap Eden Baan, for example, kicks off as early as October 12. Hopefully, we’ll also get the chance to skate on natural ice this year. But until that happens, you can head to these ice rinks in Amsterdam that are reopening in 2025. Tip: rental skates are available at the locations!
7 x ICE skating rinks in amsterdam to try in 2024
ICE SKATING AT JAAP EDENBAAN
The Jaap Eden ice rink is the ultimate ice skating venue in Amsterdam where you can truly hone your skating skills. It boasts a 400-meter track where you can glide without having to dodge children, amateurs, and other distractions, as everyone has their lane. The season at Jaap Edenbaan starts on October 12, and skating lessons are available as well. And after your skating session, be sure to stay for a while and enjoy some hot chocolate or mulled wine at the cosy Cafe Jaap! They currently have a fantastic offer where youth tickets cost only €1, and the second adult ticket is free. Hopefully, they’ll maintain this offer throughout the season. More info >>
IJburg on Ice
YESSS, Amsterdam had a new ice rink in 2024! The dates when IJburg on Ice will re-open at Strand IJburg, near De Japanner have to be confirmed. But we can’t wait for this fun spot for some winter fun to be back. Also, nice with the little ones! Last year, various activities were organized daily, from an introduction to ice skating to skating with Elsa. The full program and opening hours of the IJburg ice rink can be found on their website soon. And no, it’s definitely not just for kids. De Japanner also hosts fun parties for the grown-ups ;-). The RAI will be covered in a thick layer of snow and adorned with thousands of lights. You can enjoy ice skating (and more!) from mid-December, and we’ll update this article as soon as we have more information. More info >>

Leidseplein ICE SKATING RINK
We really like how the Leidseplein is hosting more and more activities each season. After the rollerblading in the summer months, this winter the ice skating rink will also be back. It’s small but lots of fun. Especially for families!. More info >>
