A holiday to the Balearic Islands is always a good idea! And if you feel like you've seen enough of Ibiza, put Mallorca high on your bucket list for your next trip. I was there for the first time a few years ago when we were looking for a family-friendly destination with a relatively short flight. During a week and a half road trip, we saw many places on the island, but the west of Mallorca captured my heart the most. What a beautiful destination! Transavia asked me to share my favorite spots on the island with you. And honestly? While writing this comprehensive Mallorca Travel Guide, I was itching to go back! In this new guide, you'll find over 40 tips for Deyá, Port de Sóller, Sóller, Palma de Mallorca, and some bonus tips for the east and south of the island. Have fun planning your Mallorca vacation!

| GETTING THERE: With Transavia, you can fly affordably to Mallorca from Eindhoven, Rotterdam/The Hague, or Amsterdam. Curious about the fares for your trip? Flights via Eindhoven start from €54, via Rotterdam/The Hague from €64, and from Amsterdam Schiphol from €69 each way. And have you heard of Flex? With this Transavia service, you can change your ticket as often as you like for a year after booking for a small fee! View all fares for flights to Mallorca here >>

Ask anyone who's been to western Mallorca what they absolutely can't miss, and they'll probably say the town of Deyá. As soon as you drive there, you'll understand why. A picturesque, historic town nestled in the mountains, its tranquility and natural beauty make it a wonderful base for a few days' stay. I still sometimes reminisce about the peace I felt sitting with a cup of coffee on our terrace at Hotel Es Molí in the mornings, watching the sunrise. If you stay at this family-run "grand hotel," be sure to book one of the renovated rooms. It's a delightful, classic, and family-friendly hotel with a beautiful tropical garden and swimming pool.

If you're traveling with young children, they can arrange a babysitter so you can dine at El Olivo restaurant in the luxurious Belmond hotel further down the village. Be sure to choose a rainy evening, as dining on the terrace is a more special experience than inside. Unfortunately, we were unlucky, but we'll definitely be back! For a more budget-friendly option and with the same beautiful view, try Restaurant Miró in the same hotel for lunch or dinner. Other great restaurants in Deyá include Nama, Xellini, S'Hortet, and Can Quet.

If you're vacationing in Mallorca, there's one restaurant you absolutely can't miss. Restaurant Ca's Patró Mar is nestled in a cove near Deyá and is incredibly picturesque. If you don't get that ultimate island feeling here, you won't find it anywhere. Reservations are essential during peak season, and expect to wait a while for a table. Or maybe, like us, you'll be lucky and sit down for a delicious seafood feast. Simplicity at its finest! Delicious, unpretentious dishes, and—while you enjoy your lunch—one of the most beautiful views.

When it comes to Mallorcan beach resorts, Port de Sóller is my favorite. We stayed there for almost a week at Hotel Esplendido. It's a perfect base with kids, as it's right on the sea and has a separate area for the rooftop pool! Traveling as a couple? Then I would definitely recommend booking Bikini Island & Mountain Port de Sóller. It's a beautiful, bohemian design hotel that's adults-only. This hotel also houses the delicious NENI restaurant, which you might know from Amsterdam. It serves the same delicious Tel Aviv-style dishes, but with a fantastic view of the bay. Luckily, you're more than welcome to dine with kids here (reservations are required in advance).

Other great restaurants in Port de Sóller include Restaurant Agapanto Flor de l'Amor and Patiki Beach for a delicious meal by the beach. Villa Luisa Sóller has a lovely terrace on the promenade and was a favorite for lunch. For the best ice cream or crêpe, go to Beach House Port Sóller, and for a good breakfast with iced coffee, go to George's.

Patiki Beach © Your Little Black Book
If you're staying in Port de Sóller, you don't really need a car during your stay. There are plenty of great restaurants in the bay itself, and the beach is lovely too. Fancy a change of pace? Then take the tram to Sóller! The tram departs at the end of the promenade and is highly recommended (especially with kids).

Even if you're not staying in Port de Sóller, a visit to the idyllic town of Sóller is highly recommended. Surrounded by citrus groves, with its terracotta roofs and winding streets, it's a place where you can easily wander for hours. In some places, it seems as if time has stood still in this artists' village. Enjoy a delicious ice cream or settle in at one of the restaurants. Many restaurants may not look particularly special in terms of facade or interior, but if you walk a little further, you'll find a lush courtyard where it's lovely to relax for lunch. Try Luna 36, Ca'n Boqueta, or Casa Alvaro, for example. Don't miss the charming grocery store and hotspot Re Organic, where you can also get a bite to eat. Tip: there's a market in Sóller on Saturday mornings.

Sóller © Your Little Black Book
Palma de Mallorca is the capital of Mallorca and is also known as Little Barcelona. Wandering through its narrow streets, you'll understand why! There are too many charming boutiques to list here, so if you've forgotten something in your suitcase, you're sure to find it here. Must-see highlights in Palma de Mallorca include Palma Cathedral, the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, Bellver Castle, the old town, Mayor Plaza, Mercat de Santa Catalina, and the Santa Catalina district, where you'll find many restaurants.
During our trip, we chose to stay outside the city with our son. If we ever return as a couple, I would definitely book two nights in Palma de Mallorca itself to kick off a road trip around the island. You'll find several great hotspots and fantastic boutique hotels in the beautiful Art Deco buildings of the old town. Hotel Cappuccino and Hotel Can Cera are on my shortlist for places to stay!
OMBU Paseo del Borne is a great spot for lunch or breakfast, where you can enjoy people-watching from the terrace. For coffee, head to Mama Carmen's in the Santa Caralina neighborhood, where you definitely shouldn't miss the food market. This is Palma de Mallorca's food district, and El Txoko de Martín serves a delicious dinner in the evening. For a good vermut cocktail (the drink of choice in Spain), head to La Rosa Vermuteria & Colmado. They also serve delicious tapas; be sure to fill your table, because sharing is caring. For a more relaxed and fine dining experience, Stagier Bar is highly recommended.

Personally, I found the western side of the island the most beautiful and atmospheric. The east side of the island has more large resorts (with a more laid-back tourist scene, so to speak), and I found that less appealing. Don't be fooled by the distances on Mallorca. The island is quite large, and the place you choose for your accommodation will be the side of the island where you'll spend most of your time. I personally wouldn't choose the eastern side of the island again, but if you're reading this article because you've already booked something there, I do have some tips for you. These addresses in Mallorca are also nice and unique: Es Guix (authentic Spanish food in the mountains), Cala Petita (Cala d'Or), Cafè Drac (Cala Santanyi), Cassai (Ses Salines), 5illes BEACH&SUNSET, and CASSAI Beach House (Colònia de Sant Jordi). S'Almonia is also a beautiful bay that you can reach after a walk and a steep staircase. If you go there, be sure to bring some food and drinks. It's truly beautiful and a must-see if you're staying in the east or south of Mallorca!

Cozy, casual, and a seasonal menu. This one was on my list to share for a year and finally it's (almost) asparagus season again! 🤤
Another plus? Prices are very reasonable here!

A cookbook from Grandma. Three Michelin stars. And a beautiful 70s villa in a quiet neighborhood in Bangkok, where you are welcomed as if you were at the chefs' home.
The Sühring brothers do not cook based on trends; they cook from memories. Of their grandmother's farm, of the flavors of their youth in Germany, and of techniques passed down through generations.
@relaischateaux invited me to experience Sühring during a solo lunch, and this is truly my ultimate definition of culinary self-care.
This was a surprising afternoon in Bangkok, where I ate the best German food I have ever tasted. And that in a city where I normally avoid European restaurants. Well, for @restaurant_suhring, you really want to make that exception.
Signature dishes that I still think back to regularly?
🍴 Labskaus with caviar
🍴 Enleta waffle with Pfalz vinegar
🍴 Game pie
🍴 Dry aged Duck
TIP: If you go to Sühring, reserve the seats at the kitchen bar so you have a view of the chefs at work!

In this reels I take you along for fine dining in Bangkok at the three Michelin starred restaurant Sühring.

This is one of the nicest free outings in the spring! Did you know that you can gather (or pick, for the connoisseurs 😉) oysters yourself in various places in the Netherlands? I’m in Zeeland for a bit this weekend, and if we can, we’ll go again.
📍In this video, I show where you can fill your bucket.
Comment oester for the comprehensive guide with all details about all 8 locations + handy tips and rules.
Important to know:
– Max. 10 kilos per person (≈ 1 bucket)
– For personal use only
– Do not scoop or scrape the soil
– Go at low tide
Handy to take with you:
Bucket, screwdriver, boots, work gloves, tea towel, clean clothes and garbage bags (for the oysters and dirty clothes).
And of course: also bring an oyster knife, lemon and champagne 🍋🥂Because you want to taste something right away!
The oyster season runs from September to about April / early May, so now that the water isn't so cold, this is the perfect outing.
In the full guide, I share exactly where you can easily find them without much effort. Leave a comment and I'll send it to you right away!
Who do you want to go oyster collecting with soon?
