The Hague hotspot guide: 14 hotspots you want to know in 4 different neighborhoods

26 December 2018

Get on your bike and discover The Hague like a local!

How many neighborhoods in The Hague can you name? I thought I knew The Hague pretty well, but last week I cycled from the city center to Scheveningen on a The Hague City Bike and discovered tons of great new (shopping) spots. I'll share them all with you in this comprehensive guide!

Start in the city center and then cycle through the trendy Zeeheldenkwartier to the lively Statenkwartier and on to the harbor and Scheveningen beach. Curious about what great hotspots you'll encounter along the way? In the video below, I'll take you on my day trip to The Hague. Want to join me? You can pick up a copy of the [in Dutch] at The Hague Info Store. Shop By Bike booklet with the route of this cycling tour!

14 hotspots not to be missed in The Hague

CENTRUM

Confetti: This all-day breakfast hotspot on the bustling Prinsenstraat has only just opened and is already a favorite with locals. And with us! Because believe me, you won't want to miss this new hotspot during a day in The Hague. Sink into the velvet sofas under the glittering lights and order a cappuccino and breakfast for a perfect start to your day.

Episode: You're probably familiar with this vintage store from Amsterdam, and they've recently opened in The Hague. They were one of the first to perfectly match vintage items with the current fashion season's trends. Are cowboy belts, block heels, Adidas sneakers, leather pants, or army jackets in style? At Episode, you can find a truly vintage piece.

Gallery Project 2.0: Do you find art interesting, but don't feel like spending hours browsing in a museum? When I'm abroad, I regularly pop into galleries. I should do that more often in the Netherlands too! They're just as inspiring, and the exhibitions change regularly. In The Hague, Noordeinde is a street with many galleries, such as Galerie Project 2.0. It's a great place to pop in and get inspired (even if your budget doesn't allow for a purchase). Good to know: admission is completely free.

Wiezewasjes: Every time I walk into this shop, I leave with a wishlist of beautiful earrings, necklaces, and rings. This is the place to go for bohemian jewelry made of silver or gold-plated gold and real (gem)stones.

Bar and Such:  This cool concept store in The Hague's up-and-coming Zeeheldenkwartier sells both vintage and new items. From clothing to plants and illustrations, and from vintage 70s vases to other knick-knacks. And that last one is exactly what you'll feel when you browse here: eager to buy a nice "green" gift for a friend or yourself.

WOW: Another great place full of plants is WOW on Piet Heinstraat. This concept store is one of my personal favorites in The Hague. Whenever I'm in The Hague, I always pop in. Here you can shop for the most original home accessories, beautiful notebooks, kimonos, and jewelry with a botanical touch.

Hot Iron: This fashion store hasn't been open long, but it's a must-see for fans of pre-loved clothes and pieces by emerging designers. The items sold here are unique, so if you shop here, you're unlikely to find anyone wearing the same thing as you.
Prins Hendrikstraat 30b, The Hague – hotironing.nl

Crunch Café: Every neighborhood should have a place like Crunch Café. With a no-nonsense menu full of classics that always taste great, like eggs Benedict and a Club sandwich BLT. Tip: they also have a play area for the kids.

Sprinkle + Hop: My own house is full of vintage trinkets I picked up at flea markets and shops like Sprinkel + Hop. Anyone who loves this kind of thing absolutely can't miss this store. Believe me, it's worth the short bike ride. The vintage store is full of furniture, home accessories, and other trinkets from my grandmother's time.

Achtung Baby: Since becoming a mother, I know better than anyone that your little one only wears clothes in a certain size for a very short time, and it's a real waste to buy everything new. That's why Achtung Baby sells secondhand clothes for babies and children. Besides secondhand clothes, they also sell new handmade brands and have a children's hairdresser regularly available.

Paagman: Whenever I see a nice bookstore in another city, I always pop in. Because, perhaps they sell my own books? It's always a surprise! A tip for anyone curious about my books and would love to see them in person: Paagman on the charming "Fred" is the place to be. Besides my books, they sell thousands of other books, and you can also get something to eat and drink.

Luna Azul: Statenkwartier, and Frederik Hendriklaan in particular, is a charming shopping street with a clear function within the neighborhood. It's full of specialty stores and beautiful boutiques. One of those boutiques is the colorful Luna Azul. It's the go-to store in The Hague for women's clothing from beautiful brands that let you make a statement. I can't get enough of the racks of flared trousers, leopard print, sequins, and dresses.

Poush Concept Store: Be warned: if you walk into Poush, the chances of leaving without buying anything are slim. This store is full of items from brands both large and small that evoke a bit of Ibiza. From jewelry to homeware and clothing. I spotted beautiful crocheted wall hangings, buffalo horn earrings, and more.

Hart Beach: Always wanted to learn to surf? Then Hart Beach is the place for you! A surf shop, surf school, and a fantastic beach club open year-round, all under one roof. As soon as you step through the door, you'll immediately feel the relaxed atmosphere of the surf lifestyle. In the shop, you can get advice on surf gear, but you'll also find clothing from lifestyle brands like Roxy. At the end of the day, enjoy a drink or a bite to eat at Hart Beach. The menu includes their own specialty beers and lots of delicious dishes that taste great even if you haven't surfed, I can tell you!
