Check-in at Vergulden Eenhoorn Amsterdam: staying on a farm in the middle of the city

Someday I hope to have a small farm near the woods. What would that look like? Like the Vergulden Eenhoorn hotel in Amsterdam! I hear you thinking? Huh, hotel? YES, one of the most beautiful green hotspots in Amsterdam. city ​​farm the Vergulden Eenhoorn – has four luxurious hotel rooms where you can stay. So beautiful, so wonderful. And with a lovely large garden, a gourmet restaurant, and a pétanque court, you don't actually have to leave your hotel to experience that true holiday feeling. Believe me, even if you're in Amsterdam Oost...you feel like you are on a farm in the French countryside.

Four unique suites with luxurious bathrooms

As soon as we open the door to our room, I feel like I'm stepping into my future second home. What a lovely place, so wonderfully atmospherically decorated. We're staying in a three-story suite. In the basement, there's a beautiful, luxurious bathroom with a huge bathtub and beautiful antique tiled floor. On the mezzanine floor, there's a minibar and everything you need to make a nice cup of coffee in the morning. The living room and bedroom are painted the same shade of green we chose at home during our renovation. The tiles next to the bed... I'm instantly smitten! There's a well-stocked picnic basket waiting for us, which we ordered for drinks and dinner. Our suite also has an upper floor with two more single beds. So it sleeps four people. Perfect if you have older kids, because they really have their own room upstairs.

Drinks and jeu de boules in the garden

Once we're settled in, we head out into the garden for a few drinks. Next to our room is the Vergulden Eenhoorn pétanque court, which you can rent. They offer a variety of fun packages perfect for an afternoon or evening of fun with friends. And how wonderful would it be to dance under the haystack canopy again? The disco ball is already up!

De Vergulden Eenhoorn has always been one of my favorite drinks hotspots in Amsterdam. Especially with kids, there's plenty of space here, so you can enjoy yourself while they have a good time too. This summer, ordering is a little different than usual, but super cleverly COVID-safe. You find a spot near a flag, order via WhatsApp, and the order is then brought to the flag with your number.

As a hotel guest, you can, of course, grab a bite to eat in the restaurant, but especially since we had Manuel with us, I thought the picnic basket was a fantastic idea. We would have happily taken it out to the lawn in good weather, but it started to get a bit cloudy towards the end of the day, so we ate it comfortably in our room.

The next day, we check out with more wonderful travel memories close to home. What a wonderful place for a staycation is the Vergulden Eenhoorn! A true hidden gem.
