The Hague has a new addition for anyone who loves design, history, and a warm atmosphere: Hotel De Plesman The HagueThis charming lifestyle hotel is located in the former KLM headquarters and combines the building's unique architecture with a modern yet inviting atmosphere. Perfect for a night away for two, but also surprisingly child-friendly, I can tell you from experience. The family rooms (with optional kitchenettes) are wonderfully spacious, and the sofa bed provides plenty of room for everyone. With Scheveningen beach just around the corner, it's a perfect base for a night away!

The building in which Hotel De Plesman Huist is a national monument from 1939, designed by architect Dirk Roosenburg – and you can feel it everywhere. High ceilings, large windows, and original details subtly bring the legacy of KLM founder Albert Plesman to life. But make no mistake: this is anything but stuffy. Design studio Nicemakers gave the interior a contemporary twist, focusing on warm materials, art, and light. Their interiors never disappoint, and every detail has been carefully considered. Believe me, you'll find yourself saying more than once that you'd love to take home the furniture, accessories, and more in your suitcase.

Another highlight of Hotel De Plesman? Without a doubt, Restaurant Suus is a great place not only for breakfast or dinner for two, but also for those traveling with children. I was also delighted to see the restaurant completely full on Friday evening, with hotel guests and locals alike, creating a wonderful mix. The menu is perfect if you want to fill a table with delicious dishes to share, but you can also choose your own starter, main course, and dessert!
Good to know: there's also a special children's menu, and the pasta was a big hit with my son. The restaurant has a pleasant, inviting atmosphere, and the tables with benches are perfect for families, while the ones for two are perfect for a date. As soon as the lights dim a bit, there's such a lovely atmosphere.
On sunny days, the terrace is an added bonus, where you can enjoy drinks after a day out, sheltered from the wind by the glass screens. Also nice: at the Albert Bar & Lounge, you're welcome all day for a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, and there's a cupboard full of games.

What sets Hotel De Plesman apart is how well it caters to families without compromising parental enjoyment ;-). The family rooms are spacious and cleverly designed, with a comfortable sofa bed for kids of all ages and a private kitchenette – ideal for a weekend getaway with children, for example, if you want to make your own breakfast or enjoy a drink in the room while the kids are getting ready for bed. We stayed in one of the studios, which has this fully equipped kitchen. Luxurious, yet practical! That evening, after dinner, the three of us enjoyed watching a movie together in bed. So cozy!
