You might know Hoi Tin Restaurant from its delicious dim sum in our capital. Located in the heart of Amsterdam's China Town, the restaurant isn't the only place to grab a quick bite. Across from this unique spot, you'll now also find Hoi Tin Café Amsterdam, where they're experimenting with the tastiest sandwiches and Asian snacks, including delicious mooncakes. And if you haven't tried them yet, you'll want to head straight to their bakery.

Ambience and interior at Hoi Tin Café Amsterdam

Whenever a place opens with good matcha and coffee, the YourLBB team is there in a flash. So far, nothing new. What is innovative is the successful concept behind Hoi Tin Café Amsterdam on Zeedijk, directly across from the restaurant that has been drawing crowds for years.

While Hoi Tin Restaurant has a more traditional Chinese feel, the café is fresher, sleeker, and more modern. The walls are mostly beige, and the long bar is a vibrant green. Abstract prints and posters adorn the walls, and you'll find seating on low stools. The building's layout is unique, as the split-level layout allows you to enjoy your food and drinks in the basement.

Menu and dishes at Hoi Tin Café

At the time of writing, all the unique buns served at Hoi Tin Café are still in testing. That matcha bun you couldn't get out of your head after your first visit? Be sure to share it with us, as it might make a comeback. The buns are made according to the traditional recipe of Hoi Tin Restaurant, which also houses a bakery. Across the street, they're prepared and served with classic custard, while at Hoi Tin Café, they're served with a (fantastic!) matcha variation.

The drinks are also a source of plenty of experimentation – they almost deserve an award for it. A sunrise espresso (orange juice with espresso) is delicious, with just the right amount of acidity and bitterness we sometimes crave in the morning. Matchas also come in all shapes and sizes, including sweet flavors or simply their most classic, pure variety.

Hoi Tin Café is perfect for a nice coffee break

Looking for a well-deserved moment to recharge? Then Hoi Tin Café is the place to be. Not just for a refreshing drink, but also for a tasty snack. On the mini terrace (similar to that of Bird Snackbar), you can relax for a moment while watching the unique people on the Zeedijk.
