A list of tips for great hiking spots in and around Amsterdam might just be the most requested list this month. I get it! Because I, too, have a huge need to get back to nature. Get out of the city for a bit, enjoy a lovely walk in a beautiful nature reserve, and then come home full of energy. This list includes familiar names, but hopefully also plenty of inspiration to discover a new hiking spot near Amsterdam. The tips from this new list of hiking tips are all (nature) areas within a maximum of 45 to 1 hour's drive. Bring some snacks for the journey and a thermos with drinks. This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp, Antwerp's newest boutique hotel on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted the 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out).
I recently stayed at this gem, and it truly has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls adorned with creative art, beautiful, bright rooms, and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delightful restaurant, helmed by a chef who previously worked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know!

HOME ALONE 4 INCOMING 😅 My trip to NYC ends in a bad (Christmas) movie when the hotel gives my carry-on luggage with passport to an old lady who doesn't realize this and checks the luggage on a flight to the UK!
Now I'm stuck here in NY without a passport, and I missed my flight.
I've experienced a lot in all the years I've been traveling for Your Little Black Book, but this is a first 😅.
This chat video is purely therapeutic in nature 🤣🤣🤣. Because really: HOW?! 🫢
Note to self: it's better to carry your passport all day, instead of leaving it "safely" in the hotel, apparently... and from now on, attach suitcases with cables in the storage room. Even if you're staying in a luxurious and expensive hotel, everything is still done by humans.
Now I'm stuck in one of the world's coolest cities, but of course I just want to be home with Manuel, as planned. 😔

How cool is this? There are places in the Netherlands where you can cut down your own Christmas tree! You don't hear about it very often, even though it's quite common in America (where I'm currently!).
Good to know: some of these places in the Netherlands are only open for a few days a year and you have to reserve a time slot.

This time we went to @williams.farmhouse, one of my favorite lunch spots in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. But is it also fun during the day with kids?
We ordered a 'plain' version of the Farmhouse burger 🍔: yes, really just meat + cheese 🤣… and together with the fries it was a mega success.
Happy child, happy us... and it was such a cozy, rainy afternoon. I mean, this interior makes me dream of the Cotswolds again!

Spaarnwoude:
So many questions about walking routes that are also accessible by public transport. It took some searching, but this route near Spaarnwoude is mapped out from Haarlem Spaarnwoude station. Are you driving? Then you can walk in several places near Spaarnwoude. Just follow the signs! View the walking route that is accessible by public transport here >>
Amsterdam Forest:
There are seven different hiking trails in the Amsterdamse Bos. Think you know the forest well? Then try a new route! And enjoy some delicious pancake breakfasts at Meerzicht farm. Famous for its festivals and a lovely place for a stroll. And fun: you can even swim here in the summer. View different routes here >>
The Flying Forest:
This Amsterdamse Bos is located in Amsterdam Noord and is therefore easily accessible by bike and public transport. It's a wonderful place to get some fresh air. From the forest, you can also walk along the dike towards the Landmarkt and then take public transport back from there.
Zeist:
There are several beautiful walks to be enjoyed around Zeist. For example, the Sprengenroute (Spring Route) passes through several lovely country estates. View the routes here >>
Low / High Fire:
This is one of my favorite places to go for a walk. At "Buiten in de Kuil" you can pick up a tasty snack to go and walk straight into the woods from there. View different routes here >>

Park at the open-air theatre and from there take a walk through the dune area near Soest. View route tips here >>
Schoorlse Dunes:
We've driven through the village so many times, but it wasn't until this year that we actually went for a walk in the dunes near Schoorl. It's so beautiful there! Naardermeer:
A green oasis between Amsterdam and Hilversum. If you're lucky, you might spot otters here. It's also a beautiful area for boating! The walking trails around the lake are quite long, but you can also walk part of the way. View the Forest Ranger's tips here >>
Water supply dunes:
This area is one of our favorites for weekend walks. You'll spot so many deer! And with a bit of luck, a fox might even show up late in the afternoon. There are several walks suitable for the whole family. We always park at Vogelenzang, and a great spot for drinks (to go) is Buitenplaats Plantage. Bloemendaal Beach:
What better way to unwind than on the beach? Walk from Bloemendaal to Zandvoort and back! Several beach bars are open year-round for delicious food and drinks (to go).
