6 handy backpacking tips you'll want to know for your next trip

Backpacking without stress with these backpack tips, count me in!

Backpacking is certainly a lot of fun, but good preparation is essential. During long or distant trips, you might occasionally encounter various problems, and you'd naturally prefer to avoid them. That's why we've compiled a few backpacking tips especially for you. Good preparation is half the battle, right?

Grab your notebook and pen and start taking notes because you don't want to miss these tips!

6 x backpacking tips to make your trip extra fun

Packing: Keep it light! A common mistake when backpacking is taking way too much. When you're carrying a backpack weighing three babies day in, day out, you need to be sure you really need what's inside. Tip: 10 to 12 kg (22 to 26 lbs) is often sufficient, preferably even less. Otherwise, you might have to leave some things behind along the way.

SIM card: buy a local SIM card. There are so many ways to connect with the world these days. Facebook, Instagram, or even Twitter. But how can you be sure the person you're trying to reach is actually online? It's also handy, so if you ever need to call someone for whatever reason, you don't have to look for a phone with prepaid credit. Along with the local SIM card, buy a cheap mobile phone so you can leave your expensive smartphone at home.

Money: Backpacking is generally not that expensive. You can go all out and make it as crazy as you like, so it's wise to bring extra money. It's a kind of buffer that allows you to cover unforeseen expenses, such as changing your itinerary or needing to buy certain medications. You can also use your extra savings to go on that one amazing diving trip ;-)

Scams: Unfortunately, in various places around the world, it can happen that you're being scammed while on a fantastic trip. Nobody wants this, so try to find some information online or ask other travelers! Especially in Asia, various scams occur daily. By being well prepared, your chances of becoming a victim are minimized.

Language: It's incredibly helpful to learn the basics of the local language in the countries you'll be visiting. This way, you'll not only be able to get through certain situations, but you'll also be appreciated more quickly when people see your effort. You don't have to have hour-and-a-half conversations, but simple words or phrases can make all the difference. Fun fact: In Thailand, they have different ways of thanking men and women. Women here say "kap-kun-ka," while men say "kap-kun-kap."

Travel: Travel is the goal, not the number of destinations. Many backpackers are so focused on visiting every place on their bucket list that they forget to enjoy the journey. Yet, besides new experiences and personal development, this is one of the most important things. I prefer quality travel over quantity, if you ask me. Seize the moment and live in the now!
