New York City diary part 1: A walking route from Greenwich Village to SOHO and Nolita

There’s nothing better than waking up in the Big Apple! When my brother had the opportunity to move to NY for his job at a large fmcg company I was the first to push him to do so… Off course I miss hanging out with them in Amsterdam, but I always dreamed of family in NY! I immediately booked a ticket to go and visit. Although it’s my 5th time here it’s a first in the summer. And I LOVE it! We have so many cool things to discover this week. Your Little Black Book’s NY correspondent Bianca (my sister in law!) already made a very long list of hotspots to drop by :-). On our first day we walked all the way from Greenwich Village to the Lower East Side.

Coffee in Greenwich Village

The path takes us to Christopher Street in Greenwich Village. A perfect place to start a day of hotspotting! Our first stop is the new Marc Jacobs Beauty store on Bleecker Street. It’s like a candy store for cool make-up. Love the packiging, it’s so simple and stylish. On Bleecker Street you also find the Bookmarc with trendy stationary and Marc by Marc Jacobs Store with gadgets, fashion and bags (shall I treat myself to a new one?!).

Hipsters set the trend in New York city to take their bikes for transportation. I tell you… bikes are the new taxis! Finally New York City has a free bike system too. With the Citi Bike you can cycle from hotspot to hotspot. The first 30 minutes are free!IMG_1114One of my all time favourites to go to for coffee after a visit to the Marc Jacobs stores is Cafe Angelique on 66 Bleecker st. Now it’s summer they have homemade ice tea! But since I didn’t have a proper coffee yet I decide to go for my regular… a skinny iced latte. Cheers!

Non nom nom! I love this vintage pink-redish nail polish of Chanel :-) (Paparazzi, nr. 579)

If you have a chance to go to NY in the summer, do it! B. and I enjoyed our coffees at the bench in front of Cafe Angelique.
Today I’m (left) wearing a maxi dress of Jutka and Riska, sandals of H&M, watch of Michael Kors, earrings of Chanel, sunnies from Marc by Marc Jacobs and a bag of Marc by Marc Jacobs.
B. wears the icon Wayfarer from Ray Ban (these are so cool… you can fold them!), mint green top from Topshop, boyfriend jeans from H&M and Vans. The cool leather backpack is my brother’s and is from Coach.

Shopping in SOHO

As you all know I LOVE Aesop. And now I have my brother and B. hooked too! There are many Aesop stores in NY. This is the one at 341 Bleecker St.

Don’t let the name of this cool market fool you! It’s all but pop-up… but that doesn’t make it any less cooler. It’s a perfect place to shop for Indie jewelry. The Market NYC is located at 159 Bleecker st.IMG_1115

Make sure you visit this nice girl’s vintage jewelry shop on the right. If you like vintage and unique pieces you will love this!IMG_1118

I’m a lucky girl!! My brother bought me this cute anchor rosé coloured ring at The Market NYC :-). B. got a cute necklace in rosé gold with ‘love’ in handwriting. Love my brother! Got this cute rosé gold plated anchor ring as a gift :-) #happy #style #yourlbb #shopping #fashion #NYC #NY #SOHO #cityguide #travel

Food loving in NOLITA

From Bleecker st. we go to Elisabeth st. to have a small bite at Fonda Nolita B. wrote about a few weeks ago (check the blog here!) If you like Mexican food or hotspots, this is a must visit :-).

Isn’t this VW van bar too cool? Fonda Nolita is nice to go for brunch or lunch. Perfect to start a day of shopping on Elisabeth st.IMG_1120
New York can be so raw… not everything is too polished yet. And that’s what I love about this city. The vibe, the creativity and the feeling that everything is possible!IMG_1121

We wanted to go to The Muset Room for brunch. This hotspot is just open for a few weeks and they should have been open for brunch. Well… they were not! So we walked a bit further down Elisabeth st. and went to Public.IMG_1123

Brunch in New York City is the best! I ordered a raspberry and lime lemonade (a hot pink drink!) and green tea smoked salmon with spinach and a poached egg. Delicious!IMG_1124

If you’re in NOLITA make sure you visit Erica Weiner. This indie jewelry store is one of my favourite places in NY to shop for unique pieces. She sells everything from real gold to gold plated or metal. They had very cool vintage name bracelets on sale for only $ 6,- but the names Anne and Bianca were not popular in the ’70 it seems ;-). If there’s an Arlene or Lois reading this let me know if I should buy you one! LOL.IMG_1125

On Elisabeth st. we walked all the way down to China town and took a left on Hester st. Our next stop of the day is the Lower East Side! Read all about our tour at the LES in part 2 of the New York City Diary.
