De Gastronout Amsterdam-Oost: cosy bistro on the busy Dapperstraat

Bistro Bravour made a name for itself on the Dapperstraat, possibly one of the busiest streets in Amsterdam East. In East, there are countless hotspots, and some time ago, Bistro Bravour made way for De Gastronout. Same location, same concept, different name (the latter had something to do with a restaurant with the same name elsewhere in the country). At this ‘new’ hotspot, as the name suggests, it’s all about gastronomic enjoyment.

How De Gastronout keeps surprising time and again

Combine a bistro, restaurant, and gastrobar and you have the recipe for De Gastronout. The gentlemen behind this place previously owned Visbar Beet, at the same location. The name change and new concept of Bistro Bravour were implemented in 2021, but recently they underwent a small transformation and are now known as De Gastronout. Despite small setbacks, things are going well: De Gastronout remains a favorite spot for a casual bite to eat, and for good reason. In good weather, you can enjoy the lively atmosphere of the Dapperbuurt on the terrace, and in the winter months, you can move inside with just as much pleasure.

Upon entering, the wooden bar with a marble top and the nostalgic hanging lamps immediately catch the eye. With dark walls and smaller tables with white tablecloths, you might even feel like you’re in a modern bistro in Paris.

Menu De Gastronout

The menu is just as bold as the interior of this place. The Gastronout menu features six starters and main courses, making it pleasantly concise. A lot of choices are not necessary because with so many top dishes, choosing is already difficult enough. Take the leek with smoked almond or the ceviche with sweet potato: both too good to pass up – a dining companion who is up for shared dining (or has a big appetite) will feel right at home here.

As for the main courses, a French touch is the common thread: pepper steak, poussin, and a butterflied dorade evoke long evenings in the French capital. But you’re also in the right place for a (veggie) burger, but at gastrobar level. For no-nonsense enjoyment in a pleasant environment and with an extensive wine list, as we are used to from the French, this is the place to be.
