It's a thing in America, and in the Netherlands, it's one of the best-kept secrets among travel bloggers. Get a credit card linked to an airline loyalty program. This way, you'll earn points without even realizing it, which you can later use to book nearly free (business class) flights. The credit card you want to use for this in the Netherlands is the Flying Blue – American Express card. The trick? You earn points for Flying Blue. And no, those points aren't worth much in that program. But... and here's the trick: they are valid for other airline programs, to which you can transfer those points.
Save without spending extra money for that business class ticket
So, pay for as many daily expenses as possible with your AmEx credit card to earn points. We're doing the same for the world trip we're planning in a few years. Important side note: the goal isn't to spend more than you have. This really applies to expenses you would be making anyway. From small, everyday things like groceries (Jumbo accepts it, among others) to booking hotels and flights (that way you earn extra points). Tip! You can choose from various cards, and they're (usually) free to apply for the first year.
You can find more information about the various cards offered by American Express via the banner below. Each card has its own specific benefits. Some even include travel insurance with the Flying Blue American Express card. This way, you can apply for the card that best suits your needs.
