Although Anne and I do a lot of preparation when we travel and always head out with a long list of hotspots, there's nothing more fun than spontaneously discovering a place. During a shopping trip in Nolita We stumbled across Epistrophy and immediately fell in love with it. It's an Italian café on Mott Street. It has a lovely atmosphere and is beautifully decorated. A bit old-school vintage, with dark furniture and lime green tabletop tables. A fun detail: the clothes hangers hanging in the back! Super cool and cozy.

We settled in at the bar for a bite to eat and a drink. Definitely try the zucchini and ricotta croquettes with red pepper dipping sauce. And the Polpettine di Vitello (meatballs in white wine sauce and lemon). Delicious! The menu also offers a variety of pastas, salads, and other fish and meat dishes. Good to know: the food and drinks at Epistrophy are very affordable (by New York standards)! Think about $10 for an appetizer, $15 for pasta, and $40 for a bottle of wine.
