Ecole Amsterdam: Living room restaurant in De Pijp

19 May 2016

ecole amsterdam is the new living room of De pijp

When I think of a ‘nice place to eat in De Pijp’, the option of the Marie Heinekenplein will not easily come to mind. Often too crowded and too touristy. But perhaps that’ll change now Ecole Amsterdam has arrived. Because this new all day spot with the appearance of a living room has one mission: establish a name in Amsterdam!

More hotspots in Amsterdam

ecole amsterdam 600x450How do they want to achieve that mission at Ecole Amsterdam? By creating a cozy setting and offering a versatile menu. And indeed, the menu is quite versatile. As the name ecole suggests, you can expect a touch of French here. For lunch it’ll be the classic croque monsieur et madame, the French onion soup and the Liege salad. However, the versatile character is created by the mix with typical classics of Amsterdam. So you can also find a sandwich ‘halfom’, the Zeedijk and a sandwich Old Amsterdam on the menu. The same mix goes up for dinner. There goes the choice of poussins, confit de canard and entrecote to stew with fries and cod.

The name not only refers to the French ‘school’ and the accompanying dishes, but it’s also a nod to the Amsterdam School artists whose names are on the nearby street signs. If you look closely, you can also see that in the interior. There is an old school desk, metal lockers and the menus are served in green sign folders. But also the French bar stands out, decorated with typical Parisian lights. Will this be the new living room of De Pijp? Let’s see!
