I recently spent a long weekend in the beautiful ski area of Saas-Fee in Valais, Switzerland. The area is surrounded by mountains over 4.000 meters high, and when you're on the slopes, you understand why this ski area is so popular. Saas-Fee Travel Guide I've gathered my best tips for this ski area, and in this blog post, I'll list 12 things to do in Saas-Fee. If the weather isn't great, or you just don't feel like skiing, you won't be bored in Saas-Fee in Valais!

Skiing or snowboarding: It's a bit obvious, because the main reason to visit Saas-Fee in winter is, of course, for winter sports. And that's perfectly possible among the 4.000-meter-high mountains! Skiing is possible in Saas-Fee between November and April, as you can also ski on the Fee Glacier. There are over 150km of slopes, and some slopes reach an altitude of 3.600 meters!
Take a forest walk: From Saas-Fee in Valais, you can enjoy a wonderful walk through the forest. The ultimate feeling of wanderlust, if you ask me. From the town center, you can follow a beautiful path that eventually leads to Waldhotel FletschhornIn good weather, you can enjoy a drink on the terrace. And if you really want to treat yourself, stay for lunch at the Michelin-starred restaurant. Tip: you can also stay overnight. In that case, ask about the special offer that includes a ski pass and a 6-course dinner!

Wellness at Aqua Allalin: Is it cloudy or windy that the lifts are closed? Then spend a day at the wellness center Aqua Allalin in the centre of Saas-Fee. This wellness centre is located in the Wellness hostel 4000 in Saas-Fee (recommended if you want to go to Saas-Fee, but don't have the budget for the beautiful 5-star hotel The GoatRelax in the sauna and hot tub with mountain views and unwind completely!

Revolving restaurant + ICE pavilion: In Saas-Fee, you can enjoy coffee or lunch at the world's highest revolving restaurant. Or visit the recently renovated ICE Pavilion and experience what it's like inside the glacier. You'll find this Ice Grotto in the Fee Glacier. You can even get married in this ice grotto!

Take a cooking class: At The Goat hotel and it Fletschhorn* You can take a cooking course at your hotel in Saas-Fee. The chefs will tell you all about the regional products, and afterward, you'll enjoy your homemade meal.
Après Ski at Popcorn: If you ask a young person from Saas-Fee where the best place to go out is, you'll undoubtedly hear "The Popcorn." It's a hotel, shop, bar, and club all under one roof. They mainly play house music, and according to my guide, Andreas, it's the most sophisticated club in Saas-Fee, popular with the 30-something crowd. This is the place to go for cocktails and dancing!

Day trip to Brig: From Saas-Fee, it's about an hour by Postbus 511 to the town of Brig. Around Christmas, you'll find a charming Christmas market with various stalls around the square. Stroll through the narrow streets and admire the Stockalper Palace before enjoying a drink at one of the cafés. Order a "Walliser teller" with local charcuterie and cheese. Delicious!

Take the Metro Alpin: In Saas-Fee, you can take a ride on the world's highest metro! Opened in 1984, it connects the Felskinn (2.980 meters) with the Fee Glacier and the Mittelallalin (3.456 meters). From the end of the Metro Alpin, you'll have a magnificent view of the Allalinhorn.

Wine Tasting at The Capra Hotel: Did you know that Valais boasts the highest vineyard in all of Europe? If you take the Postbus from Brig or Visp to the car-free village of Saas-Fee, you'll pass several vineyards nestled against the mountainside. At The Capra Hotel, you can enjoy a wine tasting in the cellar, taking you on a journey through the various Valais wineries. Personally, I thought the Heida grape was the tastiest! Fancy trying Swiss wine with your cheese fondue at home? Bring a few bottles home from Saas-Fee, as the wine production is so small that very little is exported. A great souvenir!

Day trip to Milan: Did you know it's "only" 3 hours from Saas-Fee to Milan? Then take Postbus 511 to Visp and from there the direct train to Milan. It's also a great way to combine a winter sports trip to Valais with a city break in Milan, and then pop in for some shopping in this fashion capital on the way back!
Score the perfect cheese fondue pan: Are you as crazy about cheese fondue as I am? Then you definitely want to visit Saas-Fee in Valais Cabane du Fromage Stop by. This shop sells cheese fondue pots, cheese dondue pots, and even more cheese fondue pots. Afterward, grab a few boxes of cheese fondue and a bottle of Valais wine at Coop or Pam, and you can reminisce about your ski trip to Saas-Fee at home.

Cheese fondue at Zur Schäferstube: Of course, you'll want to try cheese fondue in the village during your ski holiday in Saas-Fee. Then head to the beautifully situated restaurant Zur Schäferstube on the edge of town. This chalet was once home to the shepherd Freggie, and you'll want to go there for cheese fondue with Valais cheese. In good weather, the terrace is also a great spot for an aperitif in the late afternoon! Order the "Shepherd's dish," a cheese plate with a glass of Heida wine.
