A half hour drive from Kaapstad lies the fishing village of Hout Bay. A bay near Chapman's Peak, surrounded by mountains and teeming with seals. People paddle in the water, because it's actually quite cold to swim in. The sound of seagulls happily flying about and the waves lapping on the beach. Hout Bay Cape Town
5 things you want to do in Hout Bay Cape Town
Eating fish in Hout Bay: Hout Bay's harbor is teeming with fishing boats. So it's no surprise that the fish here is delicious. A restaurant with a great view of the beach is Mariner's Wharf. Certainly not a hidden gem, but the food is delicious, and you can sit comfortably in the shade on the first-floor balcony. A sea view is always a good thing, isn't it?
Relaxing on the beach in Hout Bay: Hout Bay beach is a lot quieter than Camps BayYou'll have a beautiful view of the mountains and the boats sailing out. And who knows, you might even spot a stray seal in the water! At the end of the day, enjoy drinks and a bite to eat at Dune's beach restaurant.
Hout Bay Harbour Market: On Saturdays and Sundays, Hout Bay hosts the Hout Bay Harbour Market. You can shop and enjoy delicious food until 16 p.m. The market is indoors, so even if it rains, you can still enjoy a lazy Sunday. Dozens of stalls offer crafts and all sorts of things. Food stands feature local and international dishes, from Lebanese to seafood and from sushi to burgers.
Whale Watching in Hout Bay: From late May to November you can South Africa Whale watching. Imagine Hout Bay teeming with whales. A magical sight! You can book a boat trip to see the whales, but keep in mind that boats are not officially allowed to come closer than 300 meters. From the lookouts on the Chapman's Peak route, you'll often have an even better view!
Snorkeling with seals in Hout Bay: One of the most special things I've ever done is snorkeling with seals. From Hout Bay, you take a boat to the seal colony. Curious what snorkeling with seals is like? Then watch the video below!
