De Zingende Zwaan Amsterdam is the latest addition to Helmersstraat in Amsterdam-West. What an addition it is. A place from the team behind Wijmpje Beukers, Restaurant Faam, and Schotsheuvel can only be good, and that’s precisely what it is.
Atmosphere and interior at De Zingende Zwaan Amsterdam
At De Zingende Zwaan, it’s always cosy. Step inside, and you feel welcome. It’s as if you’ve been coming here for years. It’s a typical brown café (of which Amsterdam has many), but with a Wijmpje Beukers twist, making it slightly different from the rest. This brown café is inspired by the cosiness in a London pub. Combine that with French and British cuisine and a great terrace, and you’ve got the unique concept of De Zingende Zwaan.
Dishes and menu at De Zingende Zwaan
‘Whether you’re in the mood for coffee and cake, oysters and Chablis, fish&chips with beer, or a heavenly burger with a Côtes du Rhône – we’ve got it all!’ boasts the website of this restaurant. In short: this is the place for all tastes. Weekends for lunch and dinner, weekdays for dinner and drinks.
The prices immediately stand out when looking at the menu: they are low by Amsterdam standards. A poussin for €16.50, sirloin steak for €19.50, and vegetarian mains starting at €12.50. Starters range from €5.50 (thin fries) to €16.50 (scallops). The menu is simple by their admission, but just very good. And they haven’t compromised on quality, despite the relatively low prices. That’s typical of the Wijmpje Beukers team: excellent, different, and without unnecessary fuss.
