The West Village in New York City is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Manhattan. It's a truly residential neighborhood, which gives it a wonderful atmosphere. You'll find tons of great restaurants there, where you'll only encounter other tourists who have done their research. I love wandering the streets past the characteristic brownstone houses with their cozy stoops.
The West Village is the western part of the Greenwich Village neighborhood. While you won't find many hotels there, you can rent some wonderful Airbnbs to experience that authentic New York local feel. A street not to be missed is Bleecker Street. Hudson Street is lined with great restaurants, and don't miss my personal favorites: Aria, The Spotted Pig, and Little Owl!
