Visit Deventer, one of the Hanseatic cities in the Netherlands that had a trading alliance with various German and Northern European cities between the 13th and 18th centuries. Traces of this can still be found in one of the interesting museums, such as De Waag, housed in the oldest weigh house in the Netherlands. Wandering through the idyllic streets of the old town center, you'll feel transported back in time. Everywhere you look, you'll find historic gabled houses, old signs, and hidden courtyards. De Brink square is a good starting point. Don't miss Bergkwartier. If you have more time, take a bike ride along the IJssel, the river that played a major role in the city's history.
