waking up with a view over the skyline of east london
If there’s one city in Europe where I could live it would be London. And when I can wake up in Shoreditch during a city trip this feeling gets stronger by the day. If you want to stay in the heart of this vibrant and trendy neighbourhood, but you don’t have tons of budget then the CitizenM Shoreditch is a hotel to remember. You find this new hotel in a side street of the main road Shoreditch High Street and thus it’s super centrally located. In just five minutes you can walk to Boxpark or hotspots like Pizza East, Dishoom and Andina. At his hotel they live by the no nonsense rules. You check yourself in! And I have to admit that I had no clue of that during my first time at the affordable luxury CitizenM hotels but after staying at almost all their properties I’m a pro at self check-in! The huge XXL bed at CitizenM is always a pleasure to sleeep in. The rooms aren’t large but very smart when it comes to space and they have exactly what you need. A good shower and a perfect bed.
CanteenM restaurant in CitizenM Shoreditch
What I like a lot about staying at CitizenM hotels and especially the one in Shoreditch is that the lobby and canteen are always very lively. People are working there and if you’re self employed like me it’s just perfect to join them and get a bit of work done before you hit the city. In the morning you can enjoy a nice breakfast (with bagels and salmon!) and unlimited capuccino. In the evening CanteenM turns into a bar and you will experience that a lot of guests and locals go there for a last night cap.
The interior design of CitizenM Shoreditch looks a lot like the other branches and is full of art and Vitra furntinure in vibrant colours like purple and red. Across the entrance of CitizenM in Shoreditch you find a very cool mural by street artist Dale Grimshaw. I hope this piece is there to stay for a long time! For street art lover Shoreditch is the place to be. You also find the famous hedgehog there by my favourite street artist ROA.
Of course CitizenM Shoreditch offers super fast complimentary wifi! And in your room there’s an iPad you can use to turn of the lights when you’re in your huge bed. But maybe best of all is the huge window in your room. I always like to open the curtains and just sit and work there for a little before going to breakfast. Depending on the view it always gives me the ultimate cosmopolitan feel. Make sure to bring pyama’s though because you never know who can see you ;-).
Do you want to stay at CitizenM in Shoreditch during you next city trip? Check out their website for the current rates, you can book a room from € 139,- and up.
