African Asian food at restaurant The Cecil in Harlem
Try something different in New York and go to Harlem! There are some great restaurants there like The Cecil, the newest hotspot in the hood. It’s a modern African / Asian restaurant with delicious food. At The Cecil you find both locals living in Harlem and New Yorkers that from lower Manhattan.
The eye catcher in the interior is a huge painting of an African women. What I really liked is the beautiful tableware imported from the UK and the African twist you’ll notice at The Cecil. The bread baskets for example are traditional baskets from the market in Africa.
When you’re at The Cecil in Harlem I highly recommend to share all the food with the whole table. The flavours are amazing! Definitely the best African inspired soul food we had so far in New York. And the cool tableware makes the dishes look stunning. Love it!
My personal recommendation are the braised lamb shank and the poussin. Both so tasty and delicious! The lamb is so soft it just falls of the bone immediately. As a starter the ginger calamari with peanut sauce and oxtail dumplings are great options. Order a cocktail with you dinner to make it even more festive. I had the Dark and Stormy. One of my favourite cocktails with rum that reminded me of my holiday at Zanzibar :-).
The Cecil is located close to subway station 116th / 8th. They have a very cool sign at the entrance, so you can’t miss it!
