From mega-hip to uber-classic. In this list, I've compiled the most beautiful estates and castles in the Netherlands where you can stay. Perfect for a wonderful weekend getaway for two (although some of the tips do have family rooms, should you still want to bring the kids). I also stayed at one this summer. staycations I've planned to use some of the tips on this list and can't wait to wander through the gardens and settle down with a good book on the grass. Of course, you could explore a nearby town during the day, but my advice would be to avoid that altogether. Enjoy the peace and quiet, stroll around the estate, or perhaps there's a forest nearby. Take time for yourself and each other, and in the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant. Normally, many of the castle hotels are fully booked with large weddings, but something tells me that won't be the case this year. Take advantage of it. Enjoy!

This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp, Antwerp's newest boutique hotel on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted the 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out).
I recently stayed at this gem, and it truly has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls adorned with creative art, beautiful, bright rooms, and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delightful restaurant, helmed by a chef who previously worked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know!

HOME ALONE 4 INCOMING 😅 My trip to NYC ends in a bad (Christmas) movie when the hotel gives my carry-on luggage with passport to an old lady who doesn't realize this and checks the luggage on a flight to the UK!
Now I'm stuck here in NY without a passport, and I missed my flight.
I've experienced a lot in all the years I've been traveling for Your Little Black Book, but this is a first 😅.
This chat video is purely therapeutic in nature 🤣🤣🤣. Because really: HOW?! 🫢
Note to self: it's better to carry your passport all day, instead of leaving it "safely" in the hotel, apparently... and from now on, attach suitcases with cables in the storage room. Even if you're staying in a luxurious and expensive hotel, everything is still done by humans.
Now I'm stuck in one of the world's coolest cities, but of course I just want to be home with Manuel, as planned. 😔

How cool is this? There are places in the Netherlands where you can cut down your own Christmas tree! You don't hear about it very often, even though it's quite common in America (where I'm currently!).
Good to know: some of these places in the Netherlands are only open for a few days a year and you have to reserve a time slot.

This time we went to @williams.farmhouse, one of my favorite lunch spots in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. But is it also fun during the day with kids?
We ordered a 'plain' version of the Farmhouse burger 🍔: yes, really just meat + cheese 🤣… and together with the fries it was a mega success.
Happy child, happy us... and it was such a cozy, rainy afternoon. I mean, this interior makes me dream of the Cotswolds again!

Château Holtmühle: Ever dreamed of spending the night in a real castle? At Bilderberg Château Holtmühle in Tegelen, you can! In the verdant North Limburg region, near Venlo, you'll experience historic charm combined with modern luxury. Stroll through the Meuse Valley, visit Venlo, or shop at the Designer Outlet Roermond. Plantation Rococo: Our staycation at this fantastically renovated estate is already planned. And although we haven't stayed there ourselves yet, I wanted to share this tip with you. From the team behind Plantage Vogelenzang (our go-to spot when we go hiking in the Waterleidingduinen), this bohemian dream with a rock 'n' roll edge is opening at the Waterland Estate in Velsen-Zuid. More to follow soon in a full review, but you can already book it for a perfect staycation.

Park Broekhuizen: Believe me, you'll forget the worries of a busy workweek the moment you drive up the long driveway to Parc Broekhuizen. This unique hotel is so beautiful, you'll want to stay here! We stayed here just before they quickly earned their first Michelin star in 2018 for restaurant Voltaire. A Hollywood Regency-style restaurant where you can sit down for a leisurely dinner.

Kerckebosch Castle: Find the romance you only know from fairytales in the tower room of Kerckebosch Castle in Zeist. After a day exploring the wooded surroundings of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, settle in for dinner at one of the two restaurants. The four-poster rooms are a true experience: carved entirely from wood and adorned with ornate details. Sleeping like a fairytale has never been so realistic…

Wittenburg Castle: This beautiful castle, located near The Hague, is a great alternative for a city break. It boasts a lovely terrace and a delightful, large garden with ample space for all guests. The interior is classic, just as you'd expect from a castle. Luxurious fabrics adorn the rooms, each decorated in a unique style. Breakfast can be served in your room, complete with style. A truly special morning experience! If you stay here, be sure to visit the Voorlinden Museum. It's a must-see!

Coevorden Castle – Hotel de Vlijt: Okay, okay, the rooms aren't in the castle itself, but in a former granary next to Coevorden Castle. A staycation here will take you to one of the most remote corners of the Netherlands. The German border is just a 5-minute drive away. The hotel rooms are modern, and there's an on-site restaurant, so you don't even have to leave the house for dinner or lunch.

Engelenburg Castle: Near the Hanseatic city of Zutphen, you can stay at Kasteel Engelenburg in a beautiful, classical castle.
