You still know Café Felperlaan Amsterdam (Amsterdam-West) as Restaurant Felperlaan. The place recently changed its name and concept. Hospitality entrepreneurs Benten Wijnen and Lila Felperlaan wanted to give something back to the neighbourhood: create a place where people can come together. And for that, the threshold must be low, they believe.

Why you should visit Café Felperlaan

The ambitions of the new Café Felperlaan are high. Not only does co-owner Lila want to become ‘the best hostess in Amsterdam’, but they also strive to create a place that stands for connection. They believe the dishes need to be more down-to-earth and accessible. This was not the case at their former Restaurant Felperlaan, but at Café Felperlaan, things are changing. You may find the atmosphere similar to other establishments, which makes sense. Sandwich shop Toni and coffee shop Mundi are owned by the same people.

The owners have bigger ambitions; the extra space in Café Felperlaan allows for private dining and events. There are plans for children’s theatre, pancake parties, and spoken word evenings. To involve the neighbourhood even more, residents of the care home further down always get a discount on their bills. This way, everyone gets the chance to enjoy their lovely terrace.

Menu Café Felperlaan Amsterdam

The dishes on Café Felperlaan Amsterdam’s menu do not need much embellishment; they are simply good in their simplicity. Lila refers to influences from Café Restaurant Amsterdam but with a French twist. The reference is unsurprising, as the owner gained over fifteen years of experience there.

Where Restaurant Felperlaan conjured up a four-course menu, the fryer and grill are now working overtime. Their farm chicken is a hit, as are the delicious freshly baked fries they serve. But other dishes, such as a classic Caesar salad, steak tartare, and ravioli, are also a hit. You can enjoy your drinks with a good snack on the side: the oyster mushroom and shrimp croquettes are a must-try, as are the charcuterie and snails if you like them. All in all, Café Felperlaan is now the entrepreneurs’ dream – setting up a meeting place for the neighbourhood. A café where you can join multiple times a week for a good meal or a cosy drink and where you always encounter familiar faces.
