Who doesn't know the café? The icon of Leidseplein, Café Americain Amsterdam, will temporarily close on November 6th for a complete renovation. In the 1950s, this café was the place where Amsterdammers gathered; now it's being transformed into a modern brasserie that will once again become a second home for all Amsterdammers. The menu and interior will be given a fresh twist, and we can't wait to see the final result. The restaurant will reopen in mid-December 2017. Exciting!
What can we expect? High quality, an accessible style, and plenty of personality. From the reopening, the kitchen team will be led by signature chef Peter Gast, and classic dishes will be given a new twist, such as bouillabaisse, vitello tonato, French onion soup, shrimp cocktail, and the new signature tartare. Amsterdam products will be complemented by Dutch ingredients. And what's more: three different trolleys will be introduced: a tartare, pastry, and dessert trolley!
The bar will soon be the new focal point of Café Americain Amsterdam. Here you can enjoy cocktails and coffee from Vascobelo. Not familiar with Vascobelo? No problem, because soon you can enjoy tastings of his local spirits and products. The modern design, created by Studio Linse, combines Café Americain's rich history with new influences. The current Art Nouveau decor will remain, but with a modern twist. But don't worry, the original Tiffany lamps and stained-glass windows from the current Café Americain will remain ;-)
